Please excuse a newbie question, trust me I tried researching on Reddit and various other forums with no luck

I'm not a mac user but a bandmate is

On my home set up I use a squeezebox receiver to stream my music library from a basement PC to my home theater

When I was recommending equipment for this friends home theater I wanted him to have this capability as I send him things regularly

I happened upon the WiiM because it pretty much stated it could do the same and worked with mac as well

He landed on the Wiim pro

In a nutshell I want to be able to send him an external hard drive with music files on it, have him be able to plug it into his apple and then use the WiiM app on his phone to control streaming the songs to his wiim pro connected to his home theater

Am I incorrect that this is possible?

Any sort of pointer or tutorial would be appreciated and thank you for reading

MinimServer can do this. Install it on the Mac (see Quick Start for Mac), point it at the external drive, and it should show up on the WiiM app under Browse -> My Library -> Home Music Share.

There are probably better solutions, and someone will be along by and by to point them out, but it is possible and this is one way to do it.

The short answer is, yes this is possible and there several ways to do it.

Maybe the most straightforward is to setup a network share and use the Wiim Home App to play the music. It is described in this FAQ: https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support...nd-accessing-smb-shared-files-in-the-wiim-app
The Wiim Home App isn’t bad, but doesn’t have too many features, plus if you aren’t that computer savvy the network stuff can be a little confusing.

Another way, since you use squeezebox, is to have him install LMS on the Mac and use the Wiim Pro as a Squeezelite player. LMS is the open-source decendent of the Logitech Media Server software your squeezebox receiver came with. Here is a link: https://lyrion.org/getting-started/

Good luck!

Thank you very much, I will pass this along!

Very much appreciated and thank you!

Looks like he has a few ways to try, also, I didn't realize the wiim could be recognized as a squeezebox receiver, that may come in handy someday!
