Hey all, I have a Wiim Pro and a Wiim Ultra. The Pro is new as of this week, I have had the ultra for months now no issues. I have them connected to Google home in a group with a Nest Audio, and I stream from Youtube Music. I have them in two different groups. One with all 3 of my speakers, and one with just the two Wiim devices in them. When I cast to the one with all the speakers, the Nest Audio plays and the Ultra plays but the Pro wont. If I cast to the two Wiim speakers the Ultra plays and the Pro wont. I can cast to the Pro by itself and it will play, and I can link both Wiim speakers via the app and they will play together. But I would really like my group with all 3 speakers to work.

I have tried the following -
  1. Removing and re-adding the groups to google home
  2. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Home, youtube music and Wiim apps
  3. I have rebooted my network, confirmed that the devices are in the same subnet and made sure (while testing) that they are bypassing any blocks I have.
  4. I Removed the Nest Audio from the home and re-added it, I also removed the Wiim devices from home and re-added them
  5. I made sure that my streaming settings, EQ and input and output match.
I have run out of things that I can think to do, anyone else have any ideas?

Have you tried creating a persistent WiiM Speaker Group between the Ultra and Pro, then getting the Nest Audio and the WiiM group leader playing together? Say the Ultra's the WiiM group leader playing in sync with Nest, then the Pro should play along in sync with the Ultra.

I was reading yesterday that this can cause issues, but I can try again.. Give me a couple minutes.

OK just tried this. They were linked, and I could play media from the Wiim App, but as soon as I tried to cast, the pro got kicked off and it started playing from the Nest and the Ultra Again.

Huh. Too bad. That method works fine for AirPlay - I can create a Pro-led speaker group and AirPlay streams aimed at it play all over the group :-). Of course, that's a needed / tested hack to get an airplay stream playing on the Ultra without a receiver. I haven't played with or used GoogleCast or whatever they call these days for a while... sorry.

As you have seen, if you chromecast to a wiim group then only the group leader plays
This is normal / expected behaviour, seemingly a chromecast limitation somehow.

Not used chromecast for a while, but I'm pretty sure when I cast to a google group (of just wiim devices) all played.
Are both your wiims in Rooms in google?

Hi,
Are you using voice control? Or did you cast from the YTM app (YouTube Music)?

I tried creating a speaker group with a Google Home Mini (1st gen) and three WiiMs. At first, I couldn’t play music in the group using voice control. Then, when I cast to the group from the Spotify app, sound came out of all the WiiMs. When I tried voice control again, it worked.
It also worked fine when casting from YTM.

I’m not sure if this will help, but in my experience, it sometimes doesn’t work properly if the device names, speaker group names, or room names are too similar.

Please try deleting your current speaker group, then creating a new speaker group, and giving it a simple, unique name (for example, “Banana”).

Also, do you hear a prompt sound from the Pro when you connect via Cast? If you don’t hear a "Prompt Sound" even though it’s enabled in the Pro’s device settings, the connection hasn’t been established.
