Best Settings for TV via Bluetooth

Hi all, 1st post here and a new WiiM user. I have a new Wiim Pro and am using it to connect my TV audio, via Bluetooth, to my Surround receiver. My question is what are the best settings on the WiiM and the Receiver for optimal sound, preferably as close to surround as I can get.

My connections and specs are as follows:

Sony, Bluetooth sound--> WiimPro, Lineout 2 Vrms, SPDIF Output Resolution, 48 Khz, 16 Bits, SPDIF Optical Out --> Onkyo 5.1 TX-SR-504 (an older model). The receiver autosets to Neural when connected and the readings on the display are: Neural Surr PCM fs : 48 kHz.

Note that the Onkyo has various "listening modes" but not all are available depending on the connection input. It also has a number of "Original DSP Modes".

Any EQ thoughts would be great as well.

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Cheers!!
Paul

Welcome.

The first comment / question is, why bluetooth?
Can / have you tried tv optical out to pro optical in?

The Wiim is a 2 channel stereo device, so you won't be getting surround sound out of it even if the original tv signal was 5.1
If surround sound is a concern, why not go from tv optical straight into the avr?
Unless the potential to EQ the signal in the wiim is more of a priority, but the avr has various listening modes too.

If using tv optical out to the wiim you'd likely have to set the tv to output stereo pcm over optical for the wiim to recognise the signal.

So... maybe not quite the help you were after, but I think we may need to understand what you want to achieve / why you have chosen this connection path to better answer your questions.

Hi, thanks. Unfortunately it is not possible to hardwire my TV to the AVR. I realize I will not get true surround but perhaps there is a way to get some kind of pseudo 5.1.

Regards,
Paul

Hi and thanks. So my takeaway is that Surround is not possible with the WiiM Pro via Bluetooth. My next questions:

1. Are there any Bluetooth devices which can do surround sound in my setup? (TV-->Bluetooth-->Some device-->AVR Surround)
2. And what are they?
3. If not I am relegated to wireless HDMI for surround sound?

Thanks,
Paul

I'm not an expert, but I believe many AVRs have decoders that can upmix 2-channel sources to surround sound - Dolby Surround, Neural:X, Auro Matic, etc.

I don't know if your AVR has these or not, but is there any sound coming out of the surround speakers in the "Neural" mode that is currently auto-selected?

PS: Apparently your Onkyo does not have an HDMI input. You would likely get better sound using TOSLINK or Coaxial out of your TV into the Onkyo rather than bluetooth. You probably would not be able to use the TV remote to control the volume though.
