Bluetooth output breaks up when devices linked

I've been using a pro plus for a while and I've just bought a mini. I'm having problems outputting to a Bluetooth speaker from the mini. If only the mini is playing, the sound is ok but if I play something on the pro plus and link it to the mini the sound keeps dropping out on Bluetooth and on line out from the pro plus.

If I switch to aux out on the mini I can play through both linked devices ok.

Does anyone else use a similar setup ok?

I have strong WiFi connections on both devices and the Bluetooth speaker is near to the mini. I've tried a couple of speakers with the same result

Try choosing the mini first and then linking the pro plus - I recall it being reported that Bluetooth connected speakers perform better when linked to the “parent” device in a linked group. @Wiimer can verify this I believe,..

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried that and then the output on the pro plus breaks up, plus I need the pro plus to be the parent as it's connected to my turntable and CD.

There seem to be other issues with this device too - it doesn't reconnect to WiFi automatically after power off for instance. I've tried a couple of factory resets.

I think I'll return it and get a replacement.

As @Burnside said, Bluetooth output of slave devices during group playback is prone to problems. If your WiiM device is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, please try switching to 5GHz.

BTW, do you have Bluetooth speakers connected to both the Pro plus and Mini?

Usually such problems do not occur if the Wi-Fi signal is stable; please submit a ticket through the Feedback section of the WiiM app.

Also, please try placing the Mini very close to the router, and see if the Wi-Fi connection is stable. Please also try rebooting your router.

Bluetooth speaker is only connected to the mini. Connection is 5GHz.
Already tried with both devices close to router.
The problem doesn't occur if I use the aux output on the mini, nor does it occur if the mini is not linked to the pro plus. Wi-fi signal strength is very good.

Just got a response from support:

We do not recommend using Bluetooth output for multiroom playback, as this can lead to delays and lags. We suggest using wired output for better performance
So that was a waste of time. Would have been nice if they'd made this clear in the documentation so I would have known before buying the mini.

In my experience, this isn’t unusual - for example, you get a similar situation with some Amazon echos where they’ll simply just drop a Bluetooth speaker connection entirely when the echo is part of a multi room group, and the advice there is similar - use a wired connection to the speaker.

Hopefully you can return the Mini if it doesn’t meet your expectations
