"Born To Run" pre-emphasis or no pre-emphasis?

One of my old cd players has an "Emphasis" lamp but no button for it, this might explain what it was? I've always wondered, and I'd never of this until now.
Haha, yeah! It will light up if the CD is encoded with the pre-emphasis flag. It’s good to hang onto that player to use for reference/detection of pre-emphasis on CDs.

Some pre-emphasised CDs don't have the correct flag set apparently. I can't remember if my Marantz CD60SE from 1990 had an emphasis indicator. If it did I can't remember seeing it activated and I must have played the affected CDs in those days. I also can't remember how they sounded. I should get it down from the loft and try it now I know I have a few pre-emphasised CDs to test it with.

Here’s an explanation of it - sort of (or part) of like the RIAA curve for vinyl. I like the phrase at the end: “the fix is akin to a good hoe-down: it requires some fiddling” 😂

Just noticed this post from you. This was a great read and insight into an issue I had no clue about. Lucky for me I have one cd on that list so I wont get to deep in the rabbit hole… maybe 😂
