Chromecast issues from iMac

I have an Intel iMac running macOS Sequoia 15.7.3. I am trying to use the Renderer on VLC 3.0.21 to send the output to my WiiM Ultra.

The Ultra appears as a Renderer option. If I select No redender in VLC, audio plays through the iMac. If I choose the Ultra in the VLC Renderer, the words Google Cast a and the Google Cast icon displays on the Ultra screen. I then hear a short tone from the speakers, then no sound. The display then switches to a Cast icon in the upper left corner with a house icon in the upper right corner (plus a few other things on the display). After a number of seconds the clock and date display on the Ultra screen but still no sound.

How do I fix this so I can Cast from VLC on my iMac to my Ultra?

P.S. If I try to do the same thing from a laptop running Windows 11 using VLC, the Ultra plays fine.

Ticket opened with WiiM. I'll see what they say first. The VLC/iMac setup streams fine to my WiiM Pro Plus.

Resolved. I am not sure what the following from support means but it fixed the problem.

We’ve added your WiiM Ultra to our whitelist. Please try updating your device to firmware version 5.2.719053 and let us know whether this resolves the issue.

Looks like a fairly old version of firmware that has alternative/older version of chromecast that’s in the Pro/Pro Plus. Note that this version is unlikely to have other features that may have been added to the ultra in the last six months or so, and won’t be routinely updated with new firmware releases. It’s a stop gap solution at best imho.

Thanks for the insight. Silly me, I thought the firmware update was a patch on the latest firmware version. Hopefully WiiM will fix Chromecast functionality on the latest version of the Ultra firmware soon.
