I was going to buy the Wiim Pro but I am confused about how to connect a hard drive to the USB port. Based on my research you can plug an external hard drive into the USB port on the Wiim Pro and it will index the music files. But when I look at images of the back of the unit there’s no USB port. The only one I can see is a USB Type C which is labeled as the power supply socket.

How would I connect a HD to the Wiim Pro if the only USB port is for the power supply? Any insights or advice would be very much appreciated.IMG_3032.jpeg

Hi,

Unfortunately, the USB on the Pro is for power. The following four models have USB ports for media input and audio output.

WiiM Ultra
WiiM amp Ultra
WiiM amp pro
WiiM amp

I have just bought an ssk ssd hard drive, which is plugged into my wiim amp. It uses less than 5 watts of power and, in contrast to some standard usb drives, does not become hot, just warm, in use. I have had usb drives which get almost too hot to handle. The latter I have always used with a 10cm extension cable to avoid the heat damaging my amp. These ssk usb drives are not only capacious but very fast. I listen to a considerable amount of drama as a result of which I have approximately 250GB of files. Downloading these files to the ssd takes about 2 hours, which is significantly faster than standard usb drives. Another fact of life is that the usb indexing of some 5000 files is now excellent and finding individual files is not only usable but quick and accurate. I might add that the files have their metadata first entered and amended in iTunes and then copied across to the ssk drive for indexing in the wiim amp.

Good info. The Amp Pro didn’t work with my Nuvo Grand Concerto so I’ve returned it and bought the Wiim Ultra (no Amp) based on advice on this forum. I haven’t set it up yet. Fingers crossed.
