Got your eyes on something other than a Sound?
As it turns out, yes. Whilst I would love a WiiM Sound, there's been no detailed update on price or an availability timeline to date, so I decided to go a different way for now. I was planning on the Sound as a supplementary speaker to use closer to our listening position due to the configuration of our smallish living area which has the speakers not directly facing our usual listening area. But the speakers being what they are, the sound does fill the space well, but I believe an additional speaker will improve the sound a little more.
So, to that end, I took advantage of the Prime sale and purchased an Echo 4th Gen and a WiiM Mini, so I can easily link the Mini to the Pro Plus and have everything played through the Pro Plus coming through the Echo speaker which will be connected to the Mini with the 3.5mm audio cable. This should be a simple solution for me given my tech prowess, or lack thereof!
The Echo was reduced by 53% at only $79, and the WiiM Mini came down to $88 with its discount and some Amazon credit I still had, so for a total of $167 I get myself a supplementary speaker with easy linking to the Pro Plus. Whilst the WiiM Sound probably won't be as much as the $1000 retailers were listing it at for pre-orders here, I suspect it will still be very expensive and most likely outside of my budget.
By all accounts, the sound of the Echo 4th Gen speaker is quite impressive.
