Hi folks, hi WiiM team,

Been searching through the forums and it seems this was not requested yet. Else I do apologize for the duplicate.

What about adding the ability to entirely disable the WiiM Ultra screen such that it never turns on to display anything?
Yes I could get a Pro/Pro+ with no screen but it is not because I have a screen that I want it to display things. Sometimes I just want to disable it entirely so that my younger one does not wake it up and get unwanted "screen time" for example ;)
And when he's not around, I want to activate and be able to enjoy the screen I paid for.

Also, what about adding the ability to disable all the WiiM Ultra physical controls such that even if the same younger one starts playing with any of the controls, nothing happens. Combined with the first request: no screen, no control, no worries for the baby 😊

Let's see what you think!

Cheers!

There is already an option to turn off the display and to lock the volume as well.

Hi there, yes there is! But my request is about getting even more controls in disabling the screen whatever happens.
Combined with disabling all physical controls whatever happens.

Mostly it's because the kiddo is so small atm that I don't want him to mess with the settings, start/stop playbac and more importantly to get "screen time"...

While I'd still would like to reactivate all those for my own pleasure when the kiddo is not around.

I'm fully aware not many would follow me on those requests but hey, we're here to share and exchange. Maybe in a few years that'd make sense to more people. At least the thread now exists :)

when i guess the age structure of such forums i bet the time with little kids is gone already for many 😉

Just to be clear as those settings may have been overlooked by many (understandably):

With current available settings you cannot deactivate the display entirely.

Either WiiM wanted it this way or or it's buggy as even if you untick both "Screen Display" and "When off, the screen wakes up with volume or playback changes" options from the WiiM Home app, the screen will still wake upon:
- screen touch
- physical volume button interaction (even when fixed volume is set)
- new track being played
- play/pause physical button being hit

Else, explain how this could be:

Hope it helps clarifying my requests ;)

Yes, it's a known fact.
And I believe this is not a bug, but a specification.

Combined with disabling all physical controls whatever happens.

In this case, it will not be possible to hard reset the device if something goes wrong and the WiiM app becomes unusable.

I don't want to argue with your request, but I think there is a reason why the WiiM team is using the current specifications.

You can submit a ticket through the feedback section of the WiiM app and ask them 🙂

I mean, I can live with the volume physical button being the only one not deactivatable because it hosts the factory reset function. Just:
- add ability to deactivate touchscreen inputs
- add ability to deactivate volume physical input (and not only setting fixed volume, just ignore any physical input)
- add ability to deactivate the screen event upon new track being played or any of the physical buttons being hit - even more as there is already a "Screen Display ON/OFF" setting in the WiiM Home app, that to me is not working as I understand it)

Do you think the way to go is more to contact WiiM rather than posting here?

Again, I am well aware not a lot of people will follow me on those ones but hey, we're here to share aren't we? ;)

My reading of the current controls is that they refer to the display, not the touchscreen so the screen waking in the situations you describe isn’t counterlogical to me. Much as I’m a fan of little hands exploring and learning (I know not many are 😜), I fear you may need to look at physical relocation or securing the device in a cabinet well away from inquiring minds and fingers ;)

However, WiiM may react positively and implement a “lock device” option in the app so contacting them directly via the more/feedback section in the app may prove fruitful. Good luck

And if you have a smart plug, you can only turn the WiiM on when you listen to music - with a smart plug that supports Alexa, you can turn the WiiM on/off via voice control using the mic button on the WiiM remote.

This is easier than having an on/off switch installed deep inside the WiiM app.

i do not. when my grandson was 12 and in my mind stable enough i told him, the moment he touches the turntable i come to break his fingers.
There is still quite an extended period of time when the those little fingers can do a lot of fun y things already but the brain still doesn't make anything useful of granddad's explanation of physical violence. :devilish:

It's this time frame when the proposal of @p4z may come in handy. ;)

I just don't see this being implemented. My impression is that wiim is designing for ease of use and a full lock could unnecessarily complicate things. Personally I think the screen needs more functions. It's kinda lack luster and only displays a tiny album picture when streaming directly from the device or displays a super basic decibel meter. I would like to see some visualizer choices.

This thread is about the ability to lock the touchscreen, not about it's features.
And the touch control can be turned off on the other, non screen, WiiMs.

So a setting to totally disable the physical interface on the Ultra should be available to follow the design of the other WiiMs.

Only exception could be a long press on the Play to enter reset mode.

The WiiM is playing music even when the baby's around, not only when he's not.

I do have plenty of solutions and thanks for pointing out some of them here, but right now my preferred solution is to have that kinda "lock device" feature. No problem if burried down the app, that I can automate in 2 clicks based on time, NFC tags, whatever.. ;)
