Hi,
Newbie with Wiim Ultra.
Just set it and works great, expect that I'm totally puzzled by the Alexa pseudo integration
Read on this forum:
"Since the WiiM device appears under Echo&Alexa devices in the Alexa app, you can use it exactly as if it were a real echo - you can direct music to it and include it anywhere you’d include an echo, for example in an Alexa multi room music (MRM) group or in a smart home device/room group."

That exactly the very basic use of Alexa : send orders through an echodot in the room to ask to play something on the wiim.

It's like I'm doing a rain dance expecting the rain comes.. just nothing happens.
It works with radio ( Alexa play xxx on Wiim" this is ok and only this (using french )
No other service works. " Alexa start Spotify music on wiim."..start playing on the echodot itself !
Alexa play music on SoundCloud...just a ding
Also any better to set volume on Wiim is vain..

Wtf is this ???
SoundCloud Spotify and probably Amz music run on thought the Wiim app. (Except the weird intégration of Spotify that is strange)
Thank you for any help.

Given you probably quoted that from one of my posts, can you please let us know what other parts of that post’s advice did you follow? Have you given your wiim device an alternative name that Alexa will easily understand? Have you created an Alexa device/room group and set the WiiM as default speaker?

Re Spotify, have you linked that to your Alexa account and made it the default music service? The example you give for Spotify would struggle to be understood on an echo device never mind directed to a WiiM device - I’d simply ask “Alexa, play some music from Spotify on device-name”.
See this link for an exhaustive list of Alexa music commands https://smartenlight.com/alexa-music-voice-commands/

Also, you should note that voice control only works for services supported by Alexa - if it doesn’t work on an echo, it won’t work on a WiiM device.

Thank you.

As said, of course my Amazon account is linked otherwise the commands to play some tunein radios on Wiim wouldn't work neither.
Also no volume command are understood by Alexa
I tried the connection process 2 ou 3 times (deleting the Wiim from Alexa first) and doing again the whole process with new authentication to Amazon.
As I run a home assistant ecosystem, HA see instantly also the Wiim and presents it to Alexa ( so skill is self installed by Alexa without any manual manipulation)
The auto discovered name is always the full complex name and I renamed it 'Wiim'.

Once it's done I can ask Alexa to play radios on Wiim ( my Tune in account is also linked to win app like Spotify and SoundCloud and Amazon music)

Regarding the default speaker it's a total no to set the Wiim as default because the goal of it is to modernize my hifi that is of course never ON, except when I want to listen to actual music. (My AV Denon amp don't have a trigger in plug)

All the rest of the time the living room echodot must remains the default.

You don't need to set WiiM as the default speaker for your Echo device. Create a group on your Echo and designate WiiM as the preferred speaker for music within that group. This means WiiM will only play sound when you instruct it to play music via voice control. Additionally, you can omit the WiiM name when using voice control.

"preferred speaker for music within that group"
Hmm 🤔 how should I do this please?

While it’s not 100% necessary to change the WiiM device name in the Alexa app, nor is it necessary to use the name if you have the WiiM set as preferred speaker in an Alexa room/device group, the suggestion to change the name is due to Alexa understanding how “WiiM” may be pronounced - that’s why I changed my mini’s name to “puck” - there’s little chance of Alexa not understanding that.

Once it's done I can ask Alexa to play radios on Wiim ( my Tune in account is also linked to win app like Spotify and SoundCloud and Amazon music)

Linking services in the WiiM home app like tune-in, SoundCloud etc really have nothing to do with their use by Alexa. If you want to voice control a service, then it needs to be linked to your Alexa account which Tune-in and Amazon music are by default, but for Spotify you need to enter your Spotify credentials in the Alexa app. There’s no Alexa SoundCloud integration - if I recall, there briefly was an unofficial SoundCloud skill but it was removed due to an issue with copyright - so you can’t ask Alexa to play that.

I re-iterate, you can only voice control services that Alexa itself supports, not all the services that show in the WiiM app.

Regarding the default speaker it's a total no to set the Wiim as default because the goal of it is to modernize my hifi that is of course never ON, except when I want to listen to actual music. (My AV Denon amp don't have a trigger in plug)

If you don’t wish to specify the WiiM as your target speaker in the request, you need to have it set as the preferred speaker for your living room group in the Alexa app. That way, music is automatically directed to the WiiM but spoken responses will still come from the echo dot.

Thank you,
but I'm sorry, this video show things that actually absolutly don't exists in the current Android Alexa App (the last one) first you can't pick only ONE device when creating a group (the next button will be deactivated untill you picked at least 2 devices.

I already made a groupe with both echodot + wiim and going back to this group setting there's strictly not any 'speakers menu' to choose something.
See screen copy (in French)
You can see a trash icon to delete the group and a modifier button (edit) and when in edition mode of this group you can only add/remove devices or change the group's name. Nothing else.

It appears you are viewing a different screen.

Please tap the light bulb icon in the menu at the bottom of the Alexa app's top screen, then tap the group card in the topmost group section.

Tapping the group card displays the devices within the group as shown here. At the bottom, there is an option to select the priority speaker.

Translated using Google Lens.

If the same screen does not appear, please ensure the Alexa app is the latest version.

Looks like you may be confusing an Alexa MRM (multi room music) group with a room/device group, the latter of which we have been referring to.

In the Alexa app, choose the light bulb icon which takes you to the Devices page. On that page, choose “+”, then “add group” NOT “combine speakers”, then “create a room or device group” and select a name for the group. Then select your echo dot from the “add Alexa devices to…” on the second page after that. When you save the group, you should then see a page with a “speakers” section. Select that and then add your WiiM device. If you already have a room group that contains your echo dot (your living room perhaps?), you can just jump to that group overview page and add the WiiM under its “speakers” setting.

well ..ok ok .. was the wrong type of group..
Screen where somehow quit different (you have to add 2 devices anyway) but found the stuffs...I'll test when at home.

thanks a lot
