For Music Shares : Apply shuffle to Random 100, Genre, Year, individual albums, playlists etc.

This seems like a no brainer for anyone streaming from a NAS
The Bubbleupnp app can do this.

I recall that back in August Wiim implied that they aspired to be even better than bubble ... :devilish:

Kodi can do it as well

I’m new to BubbleUPnP and would love to find out how you apply a “Shuffle by Album” to a specific genre.

My situation:
-Asset UPnP running on a Synology NAS
-Mostly classical music, with individual works by composers organized as “Albums”
-Have tried for years with many products to be able to simply select a specific genre (“Classical”) and then “Shuffle by album”

That would look at all my classical music and then play random works (symphonies, concertos, etc.) in their entirety.

I see in BubbleUPnP the “random album” option, but that appears to be looking at the entire library. How do I restrict it to a specific genre?

I’m trying to duplicate something my 20-year old AUDIOTRON could do. I have been unsuccessful so far, but recent postings here singing the praises of BubbleUPnP caused me to buy a Lenovo M8 tablet specifically to run BubbleUPnP and try it out.

I think we've discussed this before, but in order to shuffle albums in BubbleUPnP you need to add your tracks/albums to the playback queue (Enqueue from the Jukebox index), then on the Playlist tab make sure you're in Album View and finally select Shuffle Albums. You can access both of those options from the vertical ellipsis at the top right of the screen.

The random album selection in BubbleUPnP is very efficient (given it doesn't perform the indexing) but is currently only at the server level.

This is dead easy in LMS where there are a whole host of Random Mix options including the newly implemented “Works” option for Classical fans.

Aha! The missing link was to be in “Album View” on the playlist and then select “Shuffle Albums” there!

Trying it right now.

I ended up buying a Lenovo Tab M8, which arrived Thursday , and I installed BubbleUpNP on it. Still haven’t paid the $5.99, so currently slightly frustrated by the fact that I can only have 16 items on a playlist. But until I knew exactly how this genre specific “shuffle by album” worked, I wasn’t ready to commit! Yes, I know it’s only $5.99…

Thank you again, simbun for your tolerance and help.. much appreciated.

I understand the frequent recommendation for LMS, but for a variety of reasons, it’s a non-starter with me. I want to live in an “officially supported” world, running software easy to install and configure on my Synology NAS, for which I am happy to pay.

I've been using it for over a decade and only recently realised Album View was there too! The best £5 I ever spent ;)

Hahahaha! Be prepared for even more stupid questions from me.
There are a couple of settings you'll want to enable for your WiiM:
  • Gapless control
  • UPnP Eventing
These can be accessed by clicking the vertical ellipsis next to the WiiM on the Devices tab.

Thanks for the tips.

Of course, the first challenge was the Devices tab.

What Devices tab?

Oh! You have to enable the display of it in the Settings menu! Now I have a Devices tab.

Eventing? Sounds like an equestrian dressage thing….

I hear what you say but be aware LMS used to be “officially supported” on QNAP and Netgear NAS (not sure about Synology). Then all of a sudden it wasn’t and people only found out when they applied NAS firmware updates.
My advice. Don’t let your Synology update automatically. Only allow updates once compatibility is confirmed by the clever folk who manufacture Asset.
PS If I had to use UPnP then I’d probably choose Asset just because of dbPoweramp and Foobar2000 which come from the same source.

Oh, I’m aware of the support issue. But my new-ish Synology came with DSM 7, under which LMS won’t run, with the exception that it can be run within Docker.

As I’ve said in other threads here, I’m simply not interested in messing around with Docker.
