Harmony Logitech

They've got two "product lines" of remotes, Infrared Remotes and Hub-based Remotes.
My Harmony Elite is a Hub-based set with the hub and remote.
I think that some of the stand alone remotes have IR and BT capabilities, but I'm not sure.

Just noticed that their device compatibility* page says "All Harmony products can control this device" about my Wiim Mini, but Harmony still doesn't find any actions that it can do (I've set it up few weeks ago, I'll have to take a look again).

* I just happened to locate the Harmony Integrations / Device Compatibility -page, so I'm leaving it here for me and anyone else to find.
I have my doubts about the authenticity of those WiiM entries in the Logitech database…

What do you mean?
Is there an authenticity element to the functions and actions of those items. Why?
I don’t know how those entries got into the Logitech device compatibility database, but I don’t think they came from WiiM nor their remote manufacturer since they apparently don’t have the functions to control WiiM devices.

I would have hoped that since they resemble fire Tv remotes both in form and function (I.e. primarily Bluetooth remotes) that WiiM and/or their supplier could have formally cooperated with Logitech but I don’t see any evidence of that having been done.

I just got my 2nd Wiim, the Pro Plus, and I added it as a Music Server device. I'm using a Harmony One, non-hub remote. Then, for the Activity, I just added my Emotiva UMC-1 as the "receiver/AVR". As long as I can power on the Emo and have it on the correct input, I'm good with that. I use my phone as a remote, anyway, to change tracks/playlists from Qobuz. And, like most here, I have the Wiim @ 100% volume.

So, it does what I need it to for my needs.

I'm just relieved that we can add it as a device to create the activity.

I guess nothing has changed? there still is no way to control a Wiim streamer from another remote :(

yeah wish they added IR remote control then have direct access to these commands

I've not looked recently, but my solution is a remote plug that turn on things that I have without remotes. Not even sure if my Wiim Mini is behind that bit of smart tech, it might just be permanently on.
For the most part I don't any need remote control with it, everything works through the clients/players I use well enough.
If need be, I can use the Wiim app (MacOS and Android), but I need to use those very rarely.

What sort of things do you need the remote functionality for?

Same here, but again to reiterate:
What sort of things do you guys need the remote functionality for Wiim Mini?
Same sort of functions that the WiiM remote has for any Wiim device, but on an integrated/universal remote like Harmony - basic play bar keys, volume, presets etc

I suppose it’s the romanticized memory of - and affection for - a horse that’s been dead for a long time! 😂

App control generally sucks for certain things, got a physical buttoned remote.

It's fine as well as feature, but having a dedicated IR remote is nice thing to have, that directly accecss functiones. ie a "search" button that bypasses all menus goes straight to search function.

Maybe, but I believe it is not worth the time for thinking of it. Logitech killed it, or more euphoric, "discontinued" the toy. Like other things from that company. It did not create enough money and it was most likely too work-intensive to keep it up to date. The voice controlled smarties and the mobile devices took over. If there would have been clear economic perspectives or even better advantages they wouldn't decide so. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm finding it difficult to imagine use case for myself and I'm talking specifically Wiim Mini, where everything is pretty much handled through the streaming platform I'm using. Very rarely do I need to actually interact with the device. I've not had a chance to handle a Wiim remote either, don't think I would need one for anything.

Yeah, as I expressed before, my use case is probably quite different to yours. I don't think I'd enjoy searching anything using the remote.

I wouldn't use the search function on a WiiM using a remote either, but I do use my Harmony when there's an on-screen keyboard when I'm watching Netflix etc on the fire tv cube that my Harmony remote also controls. But even for a WiiM, it's very handy to use pause/mute, fire off a preset etc using an at-hand remote rather than waking up my phone or tablet, find the Wiim app, open it and then press pause/mute...

Look at the Squeezebox remote and think are those direct command functions useful.

Well aren't you a bundle of joy.

I've had it running my whole entertainment system and lots of extra automation for ages, all new stuff I've gotten could be linked to it if I feel the need. Mine is all linked as I like, so as an example, when I want to go to bed it will turn off all audio related gear, start shutting down living room lights and light up my bedroom for reading with a single buttong command. Why you are being so dismissive about this?

Logitech left the tech in the gray area, it is closer to abandonware than open domain, but it still works fine. The remotes are easy to maintain, changing the battery is quite a simple task.

You don't use the gear, that's fine, but maybe leave us discussing their use without your extra attitude?
