How can I use AKM 4493SEQ with Pro Plus

Hi, I used optical output with Pro Plus, but my friend told me it's incorrect, because the AKM 4493SEQ doesn't working without an RCA connection. is he correct? can someone resolve my confusion?

Strictly speaking, yes. The AKM in the Pro Plus is a DAC I.e. a Digital To Analogue Convertor. If you are using a digital output such as optical, then no conversion to analogue takes place so the DAC is bypassed. However, if you are using the RCA line out connections, they are analogue so the stream must have undergone digital to analog conversion and therefore have used the AKM DAC.
