How to Stream to Sonos without a line in

All, thanks for your input , it looks like the line in is my only option with Sonos direct streaming .
For now, until DLNA cast is available from WiiM.

Of course, you could always run an LMS server, which will integrate your WiiM and Sonos devices nicely, using its very nice Material Skin UI.

Hi!

I was hoping you might explain how running an LMS server would integrate Sonos music services (the streaming services they have available such as Apple Music, SiriusXM, etc) into the WiiM system?

Thanks!

In terms of Apple Music, the best you can do is Bluetooth or AirPlay ( for those WiiM devices which support it) from the Apple Music app to your WiiM device. SiriusXM isn’t yet available on WiiM other than thru Alexa. LMS doesn’t support Apple Music and SiriusXm integration seems rather complex.

I use a Sonos Beam and two Sonos 1SLs for our TV sound and streaming music in our small LR. We just got a turntable for a small number of vinyl albums we still have. The turntable has a pre-amp, but only works wirelessly with bluetooth. It also has L/R RCA jacks.. We're looking for a way to stream its sound to our WiFi connected LR Sonos system without spending $500 on the Sonos Port. Would the WiiM Pro or Pro+ be capable of this? Thanks!

Regrettably, no. WiiM's wireless communication is based on Linkplay. Sonos uses its own proprietary protocols, and they aren't compatible. Instead of buying a Port, you might try looking for a used Sonos Connect. Connects made starting in 2015 and later work with the current Sonos software: I was using one with a pair of One SLs through the middle of 2024.

For another possibility, the Beam can act as an AirPlay receiver, and there's an iOS app called AirChord that claims to take analog inputs and stream them to AirPlay, assuming you have a spare iThing to dedicate to that. I have no experience with using this.

As Burnside posted a Wiim may be able to do this in the future but the DLNA Cast feature has been promised for a long time and is yet to be delivered in production.
You could possibly use Bluetooth from a Wiim to your Sonos system but that may not be practical or desirable

There are other alternatives, e.g.

Perhaps the DLNA Cast feature that’s in beta might be able to do this. @QuarryHunslet, have you tried Sonos targets with the beta?
I don't have any Sonos products, so I can't say if they would work. I have actually come off the DLNA Cast beta, as it wasn't working for me at all, so I have basically given it up as a bad job. I might try it again if another updated beta is released, but I think if it was going to work at all, it should be doing so by now.

Sorry, I thought you had mentioned using Sonos speakers at one point…

I ran a basic test for Sonos.
Wiim Pro with DLNA Beta test firmware (4.8.705360) loaded
Sonos One speaker
The Wiim Pro listed the Sonos as a DLNA output and paired successfully.
I successfully played back audio to the Sonos speaker - Radio Paradise & My Home Music Share using the WiimHome App.
Not an extensive test, just a couple of tracks from each so not an exhaustive test of stability or quality.
The caveats on the functionality making into a production release remain
