Introducing AI Answers in Forum Search (Beta)

No, I think they should be able to identify popular “good” responses in the forum and use them to enhance their AI responses. I know I personally bookmark responses I know I’ll refer to in answering questions - maybe they could look at posts which have links to other forum posts as a start
We might have to do this manually. We could use a tag on a thread to indicate it's a "gold star" or something like that. And threads marked with that tag can get prioritized by the AI as having the most accurate information.

Yeah, I think a few of @dominikz’s posts on sub management inter alia would fall into that category

Would that be a task to be undertaken by the Community Curators.

I’d say so in the first instance. It would be good to have a private board like we do for admin actions that we could copy suggested posts to that perhaps could be opened up later if it proves to be a useful vehicle. Also, it would do no harm to harvest posts marked as a solution even although that’s not really a habit in the forum.

It's actually really good for us to mark things as solutions. There are a lot of community benefits to marking solutions which I won't go into here, but since this post is about AIs.... Most AIs already know to look at forum threads that are marked with solutions as higher profile or better quality. So as a general guideline, we should try to mark solutions just to improve the quality of answers for AIs out there.

Depending on the board, that’s not always possible though. I don’t think many of my bookmarks were markable as solutions.

For example, here’s one I recently bookmarked about USB that’s very quotable but can’t be marked as a solution

Yeah the thread has to have been posted as a "Question", which is the default in the troubleshooting section but not in all boards. The could be changed... but I'm not sold on that idea.

Humour is such a unique & often idiosyncratic quality that AI will likely fail to replicate in the short term. I suppose that with singularity not only will AI pass the Turing test but also the Comedian test. Then, we will be in deep trouble 😜🤖🤖🤖😁
I actually heard a story on the radio the other week while driving to work that was very similar to this. Some researcher got a massive government grant to study whether a robot could be trained do stand-up comedy. I shit you not. As an academic myself, this kind of shit infuriates me.

One for a Darwin Award maybe? 🤣

I disagree. I'd rather the money was spent on robot humour (of which there's classic examples in sci-fi 😁🤖) than developing AI military weapons.

What's more, AI doesn't give a damn about copyright. It “steals” knowledge in order to make it available (in the foreseeable future, profitably). No writer or author, for example, will be paid for their work. The money will flow into the coffers of the already rich ass-kissers in Silicon Valley. It is foreseeable that the whole thing will get out of control (since there is no control and there will be no control).

What could go wrong?
History has shown that intelligent technology in the hands of stupid people will produce stupid results. AI is now a powerful tool of Russian propaganda, for example. Who can distinguish between what is real and what is fake, and what actions follow from this?
I am not opposed to progress. In preventive healthcare, such as early cancer detection, AI can achieve a lot and be very helpful.
Nevertheless, it is frightening because I do not believe that it will be used exclusively for good purposes, but rather for questionable goals.
