Is there a starting point for those of us that want to detox from Sonos for the new year?

Will be dumping my Sonos system, or at least most of it. I have 11 speakers, including the Arc as my home theater setup (Arc, two ones, Sub gen 3 and sub gen 2). I'd consider keeping the home theater setup as I'm happy with the looks, sound and honestly I'd hate to pull it all out.

As far as the multiroom speaker setup, I've pretty much had it with Sonos, I'd like to eBay it all and move to another brand of speakers, etc. My Wiim Mini is being delivered this afternoon, I plan on connecting it to my new turntable and pair of Audioengine A2-HD's.

Is there a brand of speaker that everyone who's leaving Sonos seems to prefer? Or is just mixing and matching as long as it works with Wiim the way to go?

Get yourself a Lyrion Music Server (LMS) setup (eg. Raspi, Windows). Install the upnpbridge plugin. You can then continue to use your Sonos speakers as LMS audio players. The mini will also appear as a LMS player. Synchronisation will be problematic, however.
Just a thought.

Yeah, the synchronization issue is what keeps killing my interest in trying to keep Sonos working with this product. Seems like every little trick to get it working has a hitch...

I think at this point I'm just done with Sonos for multi room music as it just can't play nice with anything.

I do appreciate the suggestion.

Yeah only say of getting Sonos working on brother's otherwise would be a door stop

Seen as a squeezebox under lms once you enable bridge.

It's a bit slower to start music compared to native sbox/wiim but at least it works

Stereo pair works.
I use the bridge with a Sonos Beam & ikea Frame (nice sound quality). The basic sonos equalizer also works.

If you are happy with the (theoretical) drop in audio quality then you could AirPlay cast from LMS to any/all your supporting Sonos devices and they should then be in synchrony. Of course, you will not be able to use this method with the WiiM Ultra or Amp Pro, but will work with your Mini.

The upnpbridge plugin works fine for the mini & Sonos speakers

Not that I've noticed. I suspect there is too much individual taste involved, not to mention budgets, room size, number of rooms, music sources, etc. The great thing about the Wiim streamers is that you can connect them to almost anything and still have synchronization and room correction (plus Airplay, Google Cast, and uPnP). And speaking of connecting to almost anything, one of those "almost anythings" is any Sonos equipment with a line in, either alone or as a stereo pair or a Sonos group.

Personally, I have an Audioengine A5+ pair in one room, Fluance Ai41s in another, an ancient Bose Wave radio in a third, and one of the new Wiim Edition A10 MkIIs from Audio Pro in the kitchen. But that's just me. I could have kept the Sonos Play:5s as a stereo pair connected to a Wiim Pro, they sounded good enough for the room, but I wanted to be done with Sonos.

Here's my current gaggle of players via LMS
