Let's talk movies & streaming shows

Come and see...

I saw it on Arte's late-night program in the 90s and discovered it again a few weeks ago on YouTube (without commercial breaks) and watched it again.

Shocking, relentless, incomprehensible, and unbelievable...

I recently re-upped Amazon Prime, and I now catch-up on series that have proven to be popular. All of these are wonderfully entertaining.

Grimm. Started the 2nd season. Better than expected.
American Rust: Broken Justice. 2nd season. A bit dour and dark, but well written and acted. Jeff Daniels & Maura Tierney.
Good Omens. Started 2nd season. An absolute classic with David Tennant and Jon Hamm!
The Boys. Evil superheroes with wonderful surprises.
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. Just finished season 3, where WW3 with Russia was averted. At the last minute, of course.

Finished American Rust, Good Omens, and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. Original comments stand, all 3 nice, Good Omens is great!

Still doing Grimm and The Boys. Season 3 of The Boys starts on a nice, wild, ride....

Now also:

King & Conquerer: Almost done. Features the truish exploits of Jamie Lannister William The Conquerer. Actually needs more sword-slaughter. Enjoyin' it, overall.

Three Pines: Albert Molina solves crimes in Canada. Enjoyin' this one also, nice northern back-drops. 📺

The Beast in Me - Netflix. Run of the mill whodunnit. Yawn. At least 50% of the action takes place on smartphone messaging screens (mostly illegible - lazy film making which is commonplace these days).

The Last Frontier - Apple.

Spoiler - it's all about Archive 6 - NOT archives 1-5 NOR archives 7-10....

Alaska looks cold.

(sigh)
CGI/special effects budget must have been large. Not sure about the rest - at one point I felt we were going to get a backstory or episode devoted to everyone on that plane. Struggling to finish it…

Just included a scene where chief female character actually wears the classic spy sunglasses 😎
I suspect this whole farago has been written by AI

One Shot - Netlix. Ridiculous SEALS versus terrorists on black-site island. Terrorists evidently are self-replicating as the body count grows into the 1000s. Lots of grunting. Excellent teeth, though.

Just finished and enjoyed Death by Lightning about the assassination of President Garfield. Good performances by a handful of well known actors, including Michael Shannon who was also good in Nuremberg which I saw at the cinema earlier this week. Again, a good film but understandably harrowing in places.

I’ve also been watching the historian David Olusoga’s “A House Through Time” about two flats, one in Berlin and another in London, in the run up to and during WW2. I’ve really liked his previous series on Liverpool, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Bristol and Leeds and I’m looking forward to the next one he’s doing on Edinburgh. Worrying though to draw parallels between aspects of those cities and what’s currently happening in some places - it brought to mind the aphorism “The only thing we learn from history is that we learn nothing from history”…
