Let's talk movies & streaming shows

Why is a dying hospice patient worried about aliens?
Err.... Only when they appear out of the blue in a sneak attack on NY & generalised mayhem across the city ensues. She's an outpatient. She meets up with a guy by accident in the chaos & they navigate their way across the city in almost silence (to avoid alerting the sound-sensitive predatory aliens). 🔕🔇😊. The woman also writes free-form poetry 😁

A coupla interesting ones on Amazon Prime.

Tilda Swinton & Idris Elba from 2022. Nice visually, a bit underwhelmed with the story-style, but overall a positive.

The latest Wes Anderson movie. Stars everyone, apparently. Colorful as usual, but kinda tedious and pointless. YMMV.

Owning Manhattan - Netflix reality documentary about selling real estate in New York. This is definitely not planet Earth.

Alien plasticised, botoxed, bigteethed, surgically enhanced beings whose only existence is to survive making commission rewards selling extravagant apartments (costing upwards of 5 million dollars) to other alien beings whose role seems to be based on excessive over-consumption fueled by profits gained in indeterminate businesses & activities.

The only saving grace are the actual skyscraper buildings themselves soaring almost unreally above & among the tangle of high-rise Manhattan. Shoulder-bag dogs play carry-on parts for several of the female realtors featured in the series.

Wake Up, Dead Man - Netflix. Knives Out series. Whodunnit, Who cares... Total rubbish.

The final credits are accompanied by the only decent part of this production...

Acoupla movies on Amazon Prime (USA)

Residue (2015)

Iwan Rheon (Game of Thrones) and Natalia Tena (GOT, Origins) search for the cause of an industrial accident in a futuristic UK. Paced well enough with unique sets and visuals. 6 of 10 IMDB about right. AMZ broke this up into 3 parts as a mini-series.

The Linguini Incident (1991) Remastered.

Rosanna Arquette is a partially inept escape artist who David Bowie tries to marry to win a huge bet. They also rob a restaurant owned by Buck Henry. The escape artist moments with Rosanna are funny, and the movie left me with a good vibe.

Moon - Amazon Prime. Mining station operated by human clones who eventually rebel against the Corporation. Engaging & well acted (essentially only one actor/clone). 8/10

Was that the one done by Bowie’s son?

Fallout series 2 - Prime. Weak attempt at sci-fi comedy mixed with societal critique.
Fails spectacularly in a way that The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy & Red Dwarf succeeded.
No doubt it'll be praised as a 'must watch' by what passes as cultural commentary these days.

(interesting use of 50-60s soundtrack music)

Breakdown:1975. Excellent Netscape documentary about moviemaking & films of the late 70s.
Some classic clips from New Hollywood (featuring Jack Nicholson in many).
Covers how the cinema reflected & drew on America of the time. Lots of political analysis & social history. 10/10

Taxi Driver 1975...
