Making Bluetooth output the default or switching output using remote?

I’ve been listening using TV -> WiiM Amp -> Headphones a lot recently (no Bluetooth on TV) but every time I have to use the app on my phone - often in the other room - to switch the output to Bluetooth. I can’t see any option to make connecting via Bluetooth the default if my headphones are available. Is there any hidden way using the remote by any chance?

Normally when you turn on the headphones already paired with the WiiM, they will automatically connect to the WiiM and the WiiM output will automatically switch to Bluetooth.

Is this not working correctly in your case?

Definitely not. This is WiiM Amp, not Pro right? You have to click the pair option in the list of audio output devices. That takes me to a list of paired devices where my headphones are listed as “Not connected”. Then I click on that entry and it then connects (I don’t have to put the headphones in pairing mode so it obviously remembers them).

This is the auto-switching behavior of my Amp Pro.

As you can see, when I turn on the headphones, the Amp output switches by itself and sound comes out of the headphones. 🙂

Btw it worked the same way with my WiiM amp (non pro).

Please unpair your headphones with all paired devices, and reboot the WiiM amp, and pair your headphone with WiiM again.

It is normal to see "Not connected" in the WiiM app when a headphone is power off. You do not need the WiiM app to connect a headphone. If the two are already paired (they appear in the list in the WiiM app), you can usually just turn on a headphone and they will automatically connect.

I’ve done the repairing and still the same but I don’t want to have to unpair with my phone each time. Appears the WH-1000XM3 headphones try to pair with the last connected device (?) but even so, pairing with amp, disconnect, turn headphones back on doesn’t result in auto connect. (The phone Bluetooth is off). Would be ok if I could do via the remote but guess not?

What happens to the WH-1000XM3 if you turn on the WH-1000XM3 while the WiiM amp is already outputting audio from the speakers?
Is the WH-1000XM3 auto connecting to other devices?

To use the WiiM remote, please hold down the mic button and say "connect to headphone". In my tests, I was able to connect to the WiiM while a headphone was connected to the phone.

Pretty sure it happens when already outputting. Thanks for remote tip, I’ll try on Monday when I get back.
