Today, after a long time, I spoke to a good friend on the phone and we ended up talking about music and the good old days.
After being out at night, we often went to his place to have a few drinks and listen to a few records. We agreed that his system (made up of several different components, 70s and 80s hi-fi) always sounded very good. We were surprised that his "small" speakers (shelf speakers, I think, but positioned on speaker stands) had an exceptionally good sound.
This went on for several years and we were always delighted with the sound. One evening I said to him that he should take off the speaker grilles, I wanted to take a closer look at these cool speakers... What emerged was a 2-way system. The paper surround was almost completely missing from the bass/midrange speaker... A big shock at the time, today we had a good long laugh about it (we still think the system had a VERY GOOD SOUND)
