Purchased new home pre-wired with 6-1/2”in ceiling speakers. Four in living room meant for surround sound (all mono 2 way).
Also, 3 outside in patio area. All 7 pre-wired into AV closet in bedroom. Also have pre-wired communication cable behind TV going to same AV closet in bedroom.

Want to set up surround sound for TV using all 4 in-ceiling speakers so thinking I need an AV hdmi extender to communicate with Wiim amp in AV closet?

Want to play music in both living room and patio area as well.

Hoping someone here can make some recommendations for my setup? Would like to use the Wiim app and products if possible but am open to suggestions.

Mainly using an iPhone, Spotify and would like to be able to manage everything wirelessly if possible. Thank you……new member today…..Steve

AV closet in bedroom is the key if you are keeping this as your 'hub' then i would hard wire stuff here ie. internet router amp etc and then remotely control from various phones and pads around the house via wifi. The issue will always be connectivity, hard wiring is still best option especially for video ie. latest HDMI currently 2.2. Connection problem is where will your screen be and how will you connect to it ?
|How did previous owner use the AV hub in bedroom .. might need to rethink and just do your own thing

Use ceiling speakers as Atmos heights. I wouldn't recommend ceiling speakers as "surround" speakers. ]

And they're all mono? Hows that wired then?

65” screen in living room. New home - just setting things up. No previous owner. Builder had in-ceiling prewired and cut 8-1/4” holes for speakers. So yes, that is my question - what device should I use to have the TV communicate to the amp in closet. Since I believe they hardwired a communication cable behind where I mounted the TV and I found the other end of the cable labeled living room TV in the closet. Does Wiim make an HDMI extender device?

whats the distance ? you can get a 25m plus hdmi cable. Sounds to me like a ( sorry to say ) 'half arsed' attempt at a av install without understanding what you need and the equipment to be installed.
Clarify comms cable, you mean cat6 rj45 cable ?
I really think you need to rethink the install and get the 'builder' to assist.
1/ list what you want ie. streaming or a blu ray player most decent TV's have built in streaming apps including 'spotify'
2/ what sort of speakers do you want for your music floor standing or bookshelf and where will they be or are you happy with just decent bluetooth speakers
3/ do you want additional tv speakers 'surround sound' do you want a sub woofer or a 'soundbar'.

you have a lot of  to do .. dont rush it 🍷 ( i think the WiiM kit is the least of your worries  )

Figure out what wiring they used for the "mono ceiling speakers" :ROFLMAO:

Then get a Atmos capable AVR and use them as Atmos heights.

They'll be crap for surrounds, left/right etc.

Yes, Cat 6. A local AV contractor suggested an AV Pro audio return extender for HDMI/ARC and S/PDIF. He’s the same guy who wired the home for the builder. Pretty certain you connect a HDMI cable from the TVand the Cat 6 cable to it, then connect the other end of the Cat 6 to the amp???

maybe chat to the 'AV' guy and ask his advice seeing as he was already involed and knows the logic in his wiring etc.
For me, keep it as simple as possible, but you need to understand how things connect together, 'good' internal home wifi will be your friend plus a stable high speed incoming connection thats 100mbps plus.

you need to know the ratings for the speakers so you know if your amp can drive them .. power etc
not sure ceiling mounting is best option .. hopefully not the kids bedroom above !

Absolutely agree with good home Wi-Fi. We have that and good speed. Hoping to chat with him soon but he was recommending a Sonos streaming amp and we want Wiim.

Each speaker is 6 ohms, 60 watts. Single story in Yucca Valley, CA.

Four surround speakers sounds like surrounds and surround backs.

Three on patio seems like a separate setup - music only? If music only, are they meant to be run as mono speakers? Or it is meant as Left, right, center for a TV? Are these speakers mono or stereo? From the specs on Episode's website it looks like the speakers are probably mono, 8 ohm speakers - although they do have stereo in ceiling speakers.

Seems like you are going to need some sort of AV receiver and possibly a multi-channel amp.

You need to clarify the configuration of all the speakers and what you plan to play from each speaker. The installer should know what his intentions were.

In any case, with that many speakers you are going to need several stereo amps and probably a multi-channel receiver for the TV. Wiim can be part of this solution but it is probably not optimal for the whole thing.

EDIT: Are there left, right, center channel wires in the speaker closet? Where does the cable box go or it all just streaming? How far is it from closet to the TV? Can you still run wires from the closet to the TV area?

Thanks. Yes the patio speakers are for music only. I may set them up for mono, not stereo. No TV involved on patio.

I want to use the four speakers in the living are to improve my TV sound and to play music as well.

Any recommendations on amps as you read my setup?

I would love to incorporate the Wiim products as I really think the Wiim Home app is pretty awesome.

This seems like a classic AV receiver application with zone 2 outputs, possible with a separate amp to drive the patio speakers in zone 2. But the receiver would probably be in the AV closet which makes remote control more complicated. However, their needs to be an HDMI connection from the closet to the TV, as well as L, R, Cener connections from the closet to the TV area. A Wiim device could be an input into the AV receiver.

If you can, you should really ask the installer what his design was.

If you have to go with an HDMI extender, be sure it does eARC. That will allow you to use the streaming capabilities of the TV with the AV receiver.
