New to Wiim

Will have 2 in-ceiling speakers in the kitchen, 2 speaker under the porch outside. I would like these to be in 2 different zones. They are passive speakers. Would the Wiim Amp/streamer work for me ?

If you - wisely - want them to be in two different, fully independent zones then you will need two WiiM Amps.

You can link them to a group whenever you want it, so they'll be playing the same content. When you unlink them they won't influence each other at all.

There are other solutions (using external speaker switch boxes) that would allow you to play the same music to each single one or to both zones. But this would never allow you to play different contents to each zone. And you would lose some power output.

Hi, I recently purchased 4 passive speakers and a Wiim Amp. I don't care to be able to play separate music at the same time and understand that I would need a second amp to create a full second zone. However, I need to be able to control whether or not music is playing in 2 out of 4 of the speakers at different time. Are you able to provide more information on how the external speaker switch box works? Would there be any way to control that from within the wiim amp or other digital way? Or would it need to be manually switched? Thanks for your help!

There are many speaker switch boxes available. Some are just that - switches - so only one pair of speakers is active at a time.
Others allow A, B, A+B such as (I think) the Solupeak SP2.
That's neither a recommendation for nor against that particular product; I've not used it.

Generally I'd expect you to have to manually / physically switch what you want active.

Thanks for your help! I want our family to be able to control everything from their phones so I will likely just get another wiim amp.
From reading other posts it seems like if I were to power the speakers with a fosi amp and attach a wiim mini to the fosi amp that would essentially be the same as another wiim amp in terms of multi zone control. Is that correct? Also, do you have any reccomendations for affordable in ceiling speakers for casual music around the house/ near shower? Best Buy has sonance MAG6r for only $120, are they really bad if they are discounted that much ?

Yes, a mini and a fosi is essentially like another wiim amp, and the two wiims can be used completely independently or grouped together to play the same music. With two setups like this you can also control the volume in both places separately, whereas with a single wiim amp and a switch box there's only one volume.
The mini has its limitations, e.g. no ethernet, no chromecast, no qobuz connect (iirc), and others - not trying to provide a full list!
And this is purely my subjective opinion, but I don't like the analog output of the mini nor the pro. If it were me (and it's not me, I know), for analog out from a wiim I'd skip those two.

I know nothing about ceiling speakers!

No recommendation from my side, either. But there's no way to control them from within the WiiM Home App.

I'm trying my best to not agree with @Mr Ee (looks like he's getting used to it just a tad too much ), but I have to. And if you skip the WiiM Mini and the WiiM Pro, then the next streamer to combine with any amp was the WiiM Pro Plus. From my point of view there's too little to be saved in comparison to a second WiiM Amp.

Even if you hide the amps away in a closet, two WiiM Amps are less clutter than one WiiM Amp and a WiiM streamer (with an external PSU) plus any dumb power amp (with another external PSU).

Just my personal opinion, of course.
