Music tagging and artist art ?

Hi people,

Like many of you I'm sure, I am loving my Wiim (ultra) to listen to my digital music collection,
Like many, I think, I like to keep that library neatly organised, sadly enough, somehow tagging and organisational tagging seems to be widely different between software/brands, even if they all use the same tagging standards, they all seem to read it slightly different.
Luckily, I have a habit of having a master collection tagged for my main system, and a copy of that directly plugged into my Wiim USB for the office, so I can actually change my ID tags if needed for the Wiim.

So two questions;

In my collection there are a good number of compilation albums, often collecting artists who might have like one song released in their lifetime.
Now this has always been tagged as follows for myself (and softwares I used) as both Album artist and sort artist as "Various Artists" and artist is the name of the band, this always translated into my library showing various artists for my compilations (single entity), and then when playing music, showing the band name.
on my Wiim however, I am at about 300 artists with one or two songs mixed into my normal collection, is there a way to set "artist" in the home app to be "Album artist" or a workaround where they are grouped as "Various Artists" while still being able to also see the band names when playing ?

Second question,
Is there a way to add an artist image ?
The fact that there is an empty thumbnail image tells me yes, I already tried both Folder.jpg and folder.jpg inside the musician folders, but nothing seems to pop up here.

Both of these things are obviously not problematic,
But I am a visual person, I liek stuff to look neat and nice, for a library that already has plenty of info to deal with

Thanks.

You're correct in your approach of tagging albumartist with 'Various Artists" for compilations as WiiM doesn't use the compilation tag.
Albums being split by track artist has affected the Ultra for some time now, but I thought - at least from the release notes - that release v5.2.720535 fixed that: USB Indexing: Now uses album artist metadata for better organization.

The UI is common across multiple services USB/UPnP/Plex but I think only Plex and the desktop WiiM Home App provide images.

It appears to work almost well now.

The album artist tag is displayed in the Albums view and also appears in the Artists view (only once).

The artist tag is shown when a track plays.

But in the Tracks view and when showing the contents of an album, the album artist tag is used. In these instances I'd surely want to see the artist tag instead.

use album art downloader that'll save a file in that folder as a jpg
and with LMS it has built in downloader for any remaining

With that combination it should be enough

Thanks for all the replies,
I sent the feedback, but only really got a general mail back, thanking me for my input and that if the opportunity arrises they will consider it, whicjh is lovely.
A found a kind of workaround, with it's own limitations though, if you look in folder view, it actually shows the little band images I put in as a Folder.jpg and because of folder structure, it keeps it nice and neat, only downsidedes are that it doesn't have the alphabet slider on the right, so you have to scroll yourself, but that doesn't need to be all that annoying really, and that there is no icon view (the larger view), but again, that really doesn't need to be a dealbreaker.

I get all that with LMS :D

Not having A-Z would make the system unusable, I'd be there for minutes scrolling down 10,000+ artists in "all artists" and even with artist/album it's still close to 900

In folder view it wouldn't show any of that.

If I had to use the Ultra for indexing I'd likely use folder view too, and search when I'm after something/someone specific.

Scrolling through hundreds is still ridiculous (your artist index having selected a letter); that's what search is for.

Press a letter then finding it is quick. Unless I need to search from albums, and associated "mix" albums

Plus when you click on a artist, or a album it'll offer link to other artists/albums to other albums, something browse by folder won't show
