New USB Scan on every device?

Hi,
I found one post regarding this situation.

I installed a new USB drive with new and updated songs. The scan took 2 hours, and indexing is still running.

Everything works fine.

I have two more devices which are supposed to control the WiiM Ultra.

Do I have to do a full scan on all three devices to recognize the songs correctly?

It seems so...

Or is there a faster way?
Best regards and thank you

What do you mean by "control the WiiM Ultra"?

Or is there a faster way?
Just keep the USB device plugged into the WiiM Ultra. It will expose the contents a s a media server to all other devices in your network that can access a DLNA server.

There's no need to plug the USB storage device into any other device, as long as they're all on the same network.

Yes. 2 IPhones and 2 Androids will control the WiiM Ultra.
I did a full scan on all devices.
Took one day... 😂

Next time I exchange the USB drive, I will try ONE FULL SCAN on the first device...
And QUICK SCAN on the other 3...
In German, it says, quickscan is ideal for scanning changes in adding or removing tracks...which I did not do, I exchanges the USB drive, so I thought I had to do a full scan.
Else it would make more sense to add a hint, that if one full scan has already been done, a quick scan is enough on the rest.

I thought it must be possible to import the database somehow to the other devices...

The database resides on the USB storage device itself. If you have multiple installations of the WiiM Home app but just a single WiiM device and keep the same USB thumb drive connected, each WiiM Home app instance should only take a couple of seconds to fetch its own cached version of the DB.

If you do remove one USB drive and replace it with a new one, you'll have to perform the scanning and indexinh once from any device running the WiiM Home app. All other installations will need a couple of seconds again, whenever you change USB drives.

Ah, OK.
And the latter I do with a quick scan then, on the 3 remaining installations?

Because none of the other 3 devices saw the new USB drive with the new music on their own.

Even after I did the full scan with the first device
once with success...
🤔

Once you have scanned the usb drive on the WiiM it’s connected to, you should be able to see an entry for it under Home Music Share for any other app instance for all your other WiiM devices.

I could see the entry with the 3 other app instances... but with the OLD USB drive.
And with the OLD USB informations...
Trying to start any song from there did not work until I did the full rescan.

In that case, I’d guess then the other apps had out-of-date information in their cache until the full rescan caused that to be refreshed

Does that give you the same browsing hierarchy (Advanced view) or the MiniDLNA view?

@qwerter18, if your smartphones are on Android, I suppose that clearing the app cache should be all that's needed.

Alternatively, a quick re-scan should do as well.

That's another good hint. There are two ways to access the built-in media server, either by selecting the USB input or through Browse => My Library, Home Music Share => Media Server, <WiiM device name>: USB Disc.

I won't bet but I'm under the impression that accessing the media server through this second way might also update the app cache.

Cool! Thank you!!!

I will try both ways next time... Since I have to do a cleanup of the USB drive anyway, because several songs appear multiple times.

That would really be a great time saver. (for me)

1. Android: Cache cleanup of App
2. Try Quick Rescan
3. Access via second option (not via USB-button on top)

Best regards.
