We recently purchased the WiiM Ultra Music Streamer, DAC & Preamp. Do we need to purchase the WiiM Amp Pro: Multiroom Streaming Amplifier or an equivalent amplifier to get the most bang for our money? I'm really new to the whole audiophile world. I'd been looking on some Reddit posts that say having both together isn't new, then some posts that says as a pre amp you'll need an amplifier. In so confused. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Second question that I have is we're looking at getting these bookshelf speakers, please see attached. However once we started setting up the Wiim it looks like it only has an outlet to connect one speaker, therefore we'd need an accessory?

Thank you all for your help!

That' a very different "solution", and one that doesn't seem to meet your Tidal requirement unless you add at least something like a wiim mini.
The Onyko is a 5.1 surround sound system mainly intended for TV / home theatre.
What you were originally building was primarily a 2 channel stereo setup for music, that could also be used for tv.

You could potentially return the ultra and swap it for a wiim amp or wiim amp pro.
You could, as suggested, get a relatively cheap fosi, aiyima, or similar, amp, or maybe have a look at 2nd hand amps.
New doesn't necessarily mean better - I have a couple of 25+ year old amps (from Arcam and Roksan) that still sound great.
If I bought the amp pro what speaker setup would you recommend?

Oh no, you're not going to get me that way!!
I'd only ever buy speakers I'd listened to, I'd recommend anyone do the same.

Seems to me you may need to spend a bit more time thinking about what you want out of your system.
e.g. why did you get the ultra? Was there anything specific it provided that you wanted, other than tidal connect?
How much space do you have for hifi, e.g. was the size a factor? Presumably not if you were considering the Onyko.
Why did you consider the Onkyo package? Because it comes with Klipsch speakers? Do you maybe also want the full 5.1 sound for movies?

It could simply be that you didn't realise you'd need another box (an amp) to power the speakers. Fair enough.
In which case maybe some powered speakers (Klipsch do those too if you like Klipsch for some reason) is all you need, as someone else suggested in an earlier post.
Personally, I don't like / wouldn't buy active speakers - dac, amp and speakers all in one is too "restrictive" *for me*.
I can certainly see their appeal for many applications though, and in this case it seems a reasonable solution for you.

Is there anywhere near you where you can listen to the Klipsch you were originally thinking of?
If so, it's likely they would also have some of their powered speakers too.
Go and have a listen / comparison. If you go with the passive (original) ones, they might also be able to do a good deal on an amplifier. There's bound to be an older / discontinued model they want to get rid of.

Good luck!

What do you mean? Tidal already plays in HiFi quality l, however we'd like a device to play it from, other than having headphones plugged in.
As @hgo58 said, the Onkyo AVR does not have streaming capabilities like the WiiM. I think the two options for wireless playback of Tidal on this AVR are Bluetooth or TV app.

However, the Bluetooth connection will not be "HiFi". If you already have an Android TV (or Amazon FireTV stick, etc.) and want to watch videos as well as Tidal music, the AVR might be a good choice.

I so much agree with this suggestion by @Mr Ee.

"Seems to me you may need to spend a bit more time thinking about what you want out of your system."

Please find the way that entertains you the most 😄.
