No audio coming out from Ultra

I have a 3 month old Ultra, and everything worked fine until yesterday. I could connect Tidal and Spotify Connect to the Ultra and the screen will show up the song I chose to play. However, either the song won't play or there's no audio from the Ultra. I have tried Line Out, Coax Out and Headphone Out. I have also used HDMI ARC from my TV. From the WiiM home app, the song seems stuck in the first few seconds and will not proceed. I have raised a ticket but I hope someone here has a solution to share. Thanks!

Hi,

Could be a malfunction, but have you already tried these?

  • Check Ultra and WiiM app for updates.
  • Reboot Ultra (unplug power cable).
  • Reboot the router.
  • Clear the cache of the WiiM app (or reinstall it).
  • Factory reset Ultra.

Thanks! I have ensured that both Ultra and the app are updated. Also, reboot the Ultra and turn off and on the plug. The Ultra is connected via ethernet by the way.

I will try the other 3 options and report back.

Are they on vacation? They normally post something here or release an update.

So I have tried the following:
  1. Disabling Preferred DNS Server and enabling IPv6. Restarted both Ultra and router. (WiiM support's advice)
  2. Factory reset of the WiiM Ultra
  3. Unplugging and plugging of the power cable
  4. Delete and reinstall WiiM Home App on my iPhone
None of the above works. No audio from TUNEIN as well.

It looks broken, but what color is the LED on the volume knob? (Does the color change normally when you switch inputs on the remote?)

You could also try replacing the LAN cable

From the WiiM home app, the song seems stuck in the first few seconds and will not proceed.
So, trying to play a new song or a different source from the WiiM Home app will cause this change to be reflected in the app?

What's displayed on the touchscreen when doing this?

Obviously you can still see and change device settings in WHA, correct? What does the network status page look like?

Do you have a USB memory stick you could copy and handful of tracks on and try it with the Ultra?

Network status as shown. Yes I could use the app otherwise and the WiiM Ultra responds to the change in songs but it just won't play it. There is also no audio from the Ultra when using room correction.

The music in this instance of the screenshot stopped at 3secs.

Unfortunately, I don't have tracks that I could put into a USB stick to try. I have also tried using HDMI ARC to no avail.

Do you get any output during the three seconds before the time slider stops? I guess you don't.

Interestingly the play/pause button still displays as pause, so the WiiM Home app recognises the Ultra as still playing (although there is no progress on the time slider).

The screenshot shows you using the Tidal integration into the wiiM Home app. I'm sure you are getting the same result with Spotify Connect and using the Tidal app and Tidal Connect instead?

If so and since the WiiM Home App is fully functional otherwise, this is probably the right time to file a ticket with WiiM.

Unplug the power for a minute or so, then reconnect. Let the Ultra boot up. Start playing any track from Tidal or Spotify and when the progress bar has stopped, tap the three dots in the lower right corner (More) and then Send us feedback. Not only can you describe the problem here but the device logs will be sent along, giving WiiM engineering something they can analyse.

You will receive an email when your feedback was received. Read this confirmation mail thoroughly and reply to it. This way you tell.WiiM support to contact you directly (and not just to develop and role out a fix).

Thanks @harkpabst! I have already sent feedback to WiiM support, which has been raised to their engineering team. It sounds like it will be a long-drawn process to have it fixed. I am more inclined to file this as a warranty claim with the distributor and get an exchange if I can.

I had a similar issue since yesterday. Something is wrong with Spotify Connect and the Ultra. Sometimes it worked when I used the Spotify Controls for device selection on the lock screen.

I don't think that exchanging your device is necessary. Seems like many users have had similar problems in the last days.

Mine had no sound regardless of Spotify, Tidal or via HDMI. I tried using Room Correction and there's no sound as well. They gave me a new unit and it's working fine so I am happy.

Did you manage to get your Ultra working again?
