Noobie NAS Drive Question

I have just received my Wiim Pro today and made a Quboz account and am listening.

I have a QNAP NAS drive on my network and in preparation for the Wiim, I created a new user and password for it to access my iTunes library that is on the QNAP.

But it seems that this was pointless as far as I can tell so far.

When I ask the Wiim to search my network for music, it just finds about 10 ringtones that I cannot even find on my NAS and it does not find the 15000 tracks in my iTunes library.

I don't seem to be able to direct the Wiim to a directory of my choice.

I've read some instructions on this site, but they all seem to fail at a very early step, as if they are old and out of date.

I am connected to the Wiim with my phone wirelessly and can get music from Quboz and I am also connected to it from my Mac which is wired into the network (not on wifi) where I am writing here. I have the Wiim app on the Mac and looking for some kind of control to point the Wiim to my music library by navigating to the required folder, and if needed entering the username and password for that share on the NAS.

Am I completely missing the point?

On the QNAP either use
Music Station and Media Streaming add-on
Or
Minimserver
Or
Plex server
Ok, thanks, so I have opened/updated Music Station, Enabled Streaming add-on, set the existing library as the default location for music, allowed permission for the Wiim to automatically see the music and everything is blank. Music Station shows no music and the Wiim can't see it either.

You need to scan the music library. I can’t remember whether it’s automatic after you enable the music streaming add on or not. You’ll need to check

Since I don’t have a QNAP NAS and am not familiar with its Music Station software, I’d second the use of Minimserver or Plex.

Note that when you select My Music in the WiiM home app, that’s not a network search but merely a scan of music files in your phone. Home music share is where it accesses network resources such as UPNP, DLNA, SMB shares etc

Yes, doing that home music share thing. I think it's working, slowly. I now have a about 1400 tracks loaded out of 15000, so it looks like it's indexing and I was being impatient for it to do its thang. It seems to be finding 5 or 6 version of each song though which is worrying, because they defo aren't there on the NAS, but I think I'll let it run overnight and see what happens tomorrow.

My next question is - I have been streaming stuff from Quboz, but how do I download?

Download for what purposes? Offline listening? Choose the download icon against the album/track in the Qobuz app. Note that such downloads are only accessible by the Qobuz app and still require an active subscription

I have a qnap nas and use minimserver in preference to their own music station.
One minor 'issue' is that minimserver (free) doesn't seem to have a way of automatically checking / reindexing the files.
My library is fairly static nowadays, so not a problem for me. Simple enough to either manually trigger a rescan or set the option to rescan on startup and schedule a nightly restart of minimserver.
If your nas has container station then you could also try installing LMS.
There's no problem having all these running against the same set of files to see which you prefer using.
