When creating a Persistent Group, how do I define what is the main device?

I have two devices, an Ultra and a Pro Plus.

I want two groups, one with the Ultra as main (so the Pro Plus is following it) and one where the Pro Plus is the main.

I don't see a way to define this. The Pro Plus is always first (alphabetical?).

If I try to select a WiiM Group from e.g. Spotify app only one shows up if they contain same devices.

Unfortunately, it's currently not possible to define the main device, the order is alphabetical so you can rename them accordingly
Yes, but don't help as I want two groups. Each with one of my two devices as main.

Looks like a group is just a list of devices with no order or linking information.

In my experience, if the group is selected from Spotify, it follows the same device order as in the wiim app ( but I don't use multiple groups with the same device ).
The good news is that wiim support confirmed that they're working on the ability to set the master device ( not sure if for multiple groups with the same devices )

Yes, persistent groups are still a work in progress. We look forward to future versions.

Currently, the only way to create (different masters) persistent groups is in conjunction with creating groups from the link icons, but it is possible to create persistent groups with different master devices.

My example:.

First, number the 2 devices.
01 Ultra
02 Pro

Then create a persistent group "Kitchen (Ultra)". The Ultra at the top of the list will be the master of this group.

Then rename the Pro device.
00 Pro
01 Ultra

Then create the group "Kitchen (Pro)". The master of this group is Pro.

If 2 devices are not linked, select "Kitchen (Ultra)" from the link icon on Ultra's device card, and Ultra will become the master of the group.

Likewise, selecting "Kitchen (Pro)" from the link icon on the Pro device card will make Pro the master of the group.

However, if 2 devices are already linked, the master device cannot be switched. It would be nice to be able to do this, but it seems a long way off..

Also, I believe there are still issues with Spotify and the persistent group connection. I ran into the same problem as you. So this month I have stopped paying for Spotify and am using Amazon.

The two groups are (should be) used by family members from Spotify. I just use the WHA, so no problem there.

I will wait and see. Not a major issue.

I have also noted that if the main device has fixed volume, then the volume control from Spotify don't work. It's trying to change the main volume instead of the group volume. The volume control works from the WiiM Home App.

I have raised a ticket on this.

Do the groups work from Amazon? From Tidal or Qobuz apps I don't even see the groups, only the individual devices.

No, only Spotify displays groups.

What happens when you move the volume slider on the device connection screen in the Spotify app?

It moves on the Spotify app but volume don't change. It stay on the group volume set in the WHA (that is the same volume as the device that output to the speakers).

The issue is that the Spotify volume work on the main device, not the group. And as main device has fixed volume it cannot be changed.

Perhaps Spotify is unable to recognize slave devices in persistent groups. (Just a guess.)

It will be interesting to see if the team can fix this.
