I have some questions. If I have an integrated can I hook up a wiim ultra as a source and be able to use the hdmi to my tv, and a subwoofer or does that automatically make the Ultra perform as the Pre-amp? Just curious as to what functions the WIIM Uktra has that you can use without having the Uktra perform as a Pre-amp. Is the Bass Management like Hogh Passing the Main require the Uktra to be used as a pre-amp or would the Ultra just pass the Freuencies above your set point to your integrated as a source? Can watching TV and listening to it through the HDMI to the Ultra, then Ultra to the integrated through optical be down ne as a source or does that mean the Ultra has to become the preamp?

If you want to use bass management, then you need to use it as a preamp

If you just want to use it as an input selector / source with EQ then you can connect it to your integrated amp as a fixed volume source but any bass management would have to come from the integrated amp or maybe the sub it's self depending on how you're setup.

How do you define a pre-amp?

If the WiiM Ultra is used to switch between inputs it is performing a "pre-amp function".
If the Ultra handles volume control it is performing a "pre-amp function".
If you want to connect a subwoofer, the Ultra must be the device controlling the volume.

What exactly is it that you want to avoid and why?

I like the way my integrated sounds and just want the ultra as a source. I’m afraid if it’s the pre amp it will adversely affect the sound

It won't.

No matter what you do, the Ultra always is as much or as little of a pre-amp as you like. There is no such thing as a "pre-amp mode" being activated in certain scenarios (but not in others) that could or would alter the sound quality if enabled.

You can fix the output level and disable fixed output resolution, so it's output will be bit perfect (for digital outputs) and not affected by digital volume control (digital and analogue outputs, if you want to avoid bthat for whatever reason).

The phono pre-amp is always in use when connecting a turntable to the phono input, of course.

Is there a difference with fixed output level and volume set 100% when using digital out?

Ok so if I hook up a Wiim Ultra to my Leak 230 i can use the bass management and room correction and still get the same sound out of the 230? I guess I was worried after hearing a reviewer ( Darko) say when he used his wiim as a preamp it made his sound seem sedated compared to without it. The main thing I want is the ability to high pass my mains and the streaming app. Once Wiim makes a version of this that actually projects album covers and menus into the Television they will be even more lights outs
