Possible to continuously amplify analog aux in to speaker output?

Hi, I just received a WiiM Amp Pro and am trying to determine if I have settings wrong or if this is just the way it behaves.

I have an Amazon Echo wired to aux in (analog) and have configured the amp to never enter standby and selected Aux in as input. I would like to always have the Echo’s output audible on the speakers, but unfortunately the first second or so of output from the echo is clipped. Is there a way to get the amp to always be “playing” from aux in? After a minute or two of no input it seems to go to sleep (stops “playing”, if I push the play icon at the bottom of the app for that input source it wakes up again).

Is it possible to always have the RCA inputs signals amplified to the speakers with no delay or clipping, even after a period of inactivity?

have configured the amp to never enter standby
Welcome.
What do you mean by this? afaik, the wiim app allows a max of 1 hour for the amp pro.
I have a nagging thought that I saw something about using the windows app to allow never to be chosen; could be imagining it though!

Yes, the Windows app does allow Never to be chosen. Strange but true.

Yes, I did set the standby mode to never using the Windows beta app.

After the Echo speaks and is clipped by the WiiM Amp Pro, the app then looks like this (note the animated bars above the volume and the pause icon at the bottom right). If I ask the echo another question there is no clipping or delay in audio output as the amp is in play mode:

If I wait a few minutes, the amp sees no input, times out in some manner, and looks like this. If the echo then talks and produces output, the beginning of the audio is clipped again.

Hi,

Probably nothing you can do on the WiiM side..

Please open the Echo device settings in the Alexa app and make sure the request tone is turned on. If the request tone activates WiiM, the Alexa announcement may be uninterrupted.

Also, slowing down the speed of the announcements may help the problem a bit.

I haven't tried either, sorry if you didn't succeed.

Thanks for your response. I can try that workaround, but it would be nice if there were a way to have the line in signal input always "on" or "playing" and driving the speakers.

You can submit a feature request through the feedback section of the WiiM app.

BTW, is it mandatory to have the Echo announcements play from WiiM?

I ask out of curiosity as I do not use it that way🙂.

Good idea. Your question is good -- I use it that way as I have the Echo Dot with time display and like to use it to play music via voice. Others in the house need to be able to use it too, and I want the audio quality of the Amp Pro. Plus I would like to cast to it from my phone or computer even if others continue to use the Echo directly.

Happy New Year!

Thanks for elaborating.

I have the WiiM set up as the Echo's speaker for music - Alexa announcements are played from the Echo and music is always played from the WiiM. (I assume you already know how to do this, just wondering why you don't.)

Happy New Year! 😊

Ah, a brilliant idea that I should have thought of! A little more work to set up, but is a reasonable solution. I now have our kitchen echo in a group with the WiiM so I can play music on both if desired, and the living room echo plays music to the WiiM by default. And announcements are local on the living room echo speaker. Works well.

I still think an "always play" or passthrough option is worthwhile, though.

Thanks so much for the suggestion -- I won't have to return it now!
