Hi All,
I'm new to WIIM and the forum, this is my first post and really appreciate some help.

I have an Ultra + Vibelink in a group with an Echo Show 15 but it's behaving very strange.

Previously used an Amp Pro instead of the Ultra and everything worked fine with Alexa voice commands and preferred speaker.

Now when I ask Alexa to play music it won't play on the preferred speaker (Ultra) it just goes straight to the Show. But oddly Alexa's response to the command will play through the speakers e.g. "now playing a mix for you". Also if I ask the Show to play BBC Sounds it plays through the Ultra and main speakers.

I've updated firmware/software, deregistered/reregistered, relinked Amazon Music in WH app, rebuilt the room in Alexa app etc.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi

Please check the Echo show 15 device settings screen in the Alexa app. Is the Ultra set as a speaker for the Echo15?
If so, switch to the built-in speaker.

Hi,

Thank you for the feedback Wiimer.

I changed the settings in the Show to built-in speaker but still the same problem. Also tried let Alexa choose.

There is an oddity I had not previously noticed where it seems to be impossible to select the preferred speaker and then a dialog regarding multimodal devices.

Sorry, I live in Japan, so the alexa app specs may be a bit different than in the US or other countries.

BTW, what happens if you remove Ultra from the "Music Room" group and then make Ultra the speaker for the group again?
(In my case, it works without the WiiM device in the Echo speaker group.)

Yeah, that is strange as Alexa will normally only redirect music to a preferred speaker unless you have also changed its default speaker inputs Alexa app settings. I’d check there that your Show is set to use its own speakers, while the room group is set to use the Ultra.

Hi.

If I take the Ultra out and add it back into the Music Room group something even stranger happens, the Ultra device is not available at all.

Hi,

Yes I've tried and it is set.
This worked seamless with the Amp Pro

Now if I try it the other way around the preferred speaker is indeed the Ultra but only if I pass a voice commands to the Ultra itself

Even if you click refresh the list?

I’d power cycle the Ultra and the Echo, disable and re-enable alexa in the WiiM app, and maybe even log out and back in to the Alexa app. Then redo the group and its preferred speaker, making sure the Show 15 speaker setting in the Alexa app is for it to use its own speakers. That’s how mine is set up (show 15 and ultra) and all seems well.

Also, it’s not essential for the Ultra to be in the room group, so I’d try taking it out and just leaving it as the group preferred speaker. If that works, you can try adding it back in to see if that upsets things or not.

Thanks I'll give it another try.
I've even done factory reset on the Ultra, I'll try it with the Show 15 as well.

Well I've done factory reset on the Ultra and the Echo Show 15, signed out and cleared the storage and cache on the Alexa app, disabled and re-enabled Amazon-Alexa in WHA and rebuilt the group using a new name.

Even tried it with an Echo Dot in place of the Show.

Unfortunately no change! 😵‍💫

It'll hand off a stream from BBC Sounds for example but not a music stream from Amazon.

Very strange indeed. Streaming music services do use a different audio route than skills like bbc sounds though. Any luck with TuneIn or even free Spotify to see if it’s just an Amazon music issue?

Can you create a routine to play Amazon Music on Ultra and see if it works correctly.

e.g.,
[When]
"Alexa, I'm here"
[Alexa will]
"Alexa, play My BGM"
[Request Device]
Ultra

Thank you both, I'll give the suggestions a try.

Of note (maybe)
I can stream from Amazon Music app to the Ultra but if I use the Ultra remote control to issue a voice command Alexa says "Sorry, I can't reach Amazon Music right now". So I've checked elements related to this: re-paired the remote, sign in/out of Amazon Music in WHA, verified default music service in the Alexa app!

I'll try setup up a Spotify account and try plus the routine and see if it works. Great suggestions 🙂

Regarding the routine the Ultra does not appear in the list of devices from which Alexa can make a response.

Spotify has the same behaviour as when Amazon Music is the chosen service.

I removed the devices from any groups and tried linking the Echo Show 15 to the Ultra as a temporary group, it was unable to perform the action but would work with other devices such as the Echo Show 8 in another room.

Nothing seems to work!

One last straw grab before advising you should submit a ticket to WiiM so they can inspect your device logs - if you ask the Echo show 15 “Alexa, whose account is this” and use your Ultra’s remote to ask the same question, do you get the same response from both? There’s something seriously awry with your setup as Wilmer and I can’t recreate your issue…

Wiimer, Burnside; thank you very much taking time out of your day to help, it's been very much appreciated 👍

In both cases it replies that it is my account.

I agree there's something just not right, it's massively frustrating.

I assume the ticket goes through Wiimhome:

Yeah submit it via the more/feedback section of the WiiM home app and it’ll send your device logs when you submit it. Do let us know what it turns out to be - some very scratched heads here ;)

Edit: I’d refer to this thread with your screenshots etc in the ticket
