Qobuz Connect - Anybody Heard Any Updates

Qobuz Connect is #1 on my wish list. Outside of Qobuz, only insiders at WiiM/Linkplay and Masimo would definitely know specifics, and they're under a strict NDA. If Qobuz is sharing info with anyone else, the same NDA would be in force.
Much like Spotify hifi teasing every one I doubt if ever released. Another to consider the size and scope of the company. If this was Apple or Microsoft with their trillion dollar market size things would be moving on schedule with little to no delay. They have nation of engineers working on projects that they can afford to pay.

I am also eagerly waiting for it. Chromcast connect works reasonably well, but unfortunately there are some limitations that I won't like in the long term. First of all, there is no gapless playback. In addition, the automatic volume adjustment within playlists does not work. The same goes for shuffle playback. Last but not least, the WiiM keeps playing at the end of an album or playlist, even though I have deactivated it.

As a layman, I wonder what is so difficult about this Q. connect feature that it has been dragging on for years. Without any visible progress! I'm probably on the wrong track with my opinion ...

While I've had similar doubts about Spotify, I think their recent price increases are presaging the long-awaited availability of at least CD-quality content (because the increases will make the price difference between lossy and lossless tiers less jarring). I also think that Connect is currently Qobuz's top development priority, and that they're well aware that releasing it is quite important for the competitiveness of their business.

I think these are the general challenges:
  • Reliability, stability, capacity, and security of the protocol, as well as with their Internet-facing infrastructure, to support a possibly rapid increase in its use;
  • Possibly some patent issues from the likes of Spotify, Tidal, Google, Sonos, etc. that require them to reinvent a wheel or two if they don't want to pay ruinous licensing/royalty fees;
  • Getting CE partners on board to support yet another Connect protocol (and update already-sold products). Qobuz is comparatively small, and I think it's wise they focused on building partnerships with Masimo (the incumbent heavyweight in the CE space) and WiiM/Linkplay (perhaps the fastest-growing streaming hardware manufacturer in the world).
I don't think there'll be a lot of advance notice of GA for Qobuz Connect before it's suddenly available on certain WiiM/Denon/Marantz/etc. products.

How long has the following logo been used in the Qobuz app? Perhaps they are getting closer. :unsure:

Even if Qobuz finally launches connect, not all streamers will support it. My Argon Solo doesn't support Tidal Connect even though that has been out a long time. WIIM probably will though.

Oh, no doubt WiiM will, with the only possible question being with the Mini -- though I would expect they'd find a way to support those, since there are so many of them out there. In addition, most Masimo products that run Heos are likely to get it as well. Although Qobuz hasn't announced how other third parties will be able to get on board, I would expect them at least gradually to release some kind of API/SDK for extending Connect functionality to other platforms.

I think it may be time for a mini 2 with a better processor, more memory and a cirrus CS43131 chip

So we are waiting on Heos.....
Masimo = Denon, Marantz, etc. = HEOS. It's all the same conglomerate.

Early on, WiiM and Qobuz first announced their partnership with Qobuz to support Connect. Later on, Qobuz announced the Masimo partnership as a priority, which makes sense since HEOS is available on so many consumer products in so many channels. I'll be pretty shocked if WiiM doesn't push Connect-capable firmware very soon thereafter. For all we know, there may be a working prototype in alpha on the WiiM platform already.

according to Jane at club qobuz they are about to make an announcement on this "very soon".

but who knows? like @Achim1811 mentioned tho - people in the forums there aren't even replying to her with any enthusiasm - even the people who specifically asked about it?!! :LOL: probably cos nobody expects them to actually stick to that!

She didn't say "real soon now"? Is that a good sign?
