RadioApp inclusion?

if you haven’t already, link your WiiM Home app to Alexa (under browse/amazon Alexa) and you will be able to access them on your WiiM device using voice commands either from the WiiM remote, an echo device or the talk/tap to Alexa option in the Alexa or Amazon Music apps.

Or use the radio app and Bluetooth, airplay or Chromecast the audio to your WiiM.

if you haven’t already
I have, thank you. But this is not relevant to my feature request.

RadioApp is for Australian radio stations and is much better than TuneIn or other similar apps. Would love to see it included in the WiiM Home App.

I know I can cast from the app from my phone or tablet etc. but having it built-in to the WiiM App would be ideal for me. I'm currently using TuneIn in the WiiM Home App, but it is very poor in comparison.

Forgive me, but as it’s a regional app, it’s rather niche and as such I’d say unlikely to be included in the WiiM app, but who knows? OK, you might argue the BBC is regional but it’s there (albeit a weak integration) but I’d argue it has a wider reach ;)

Also, as I’ve said before, I think it’s unreasonable to expect the WiiM home app to be the all-singing, all-dancing universal app for all services, even for the ones it currently supports for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is that the native service apps, take Amazon Music or Qobuz for example, usually are more feature rich than the interface they supply to third party app developers like Wiim - if indeed they do have such an interface for third parties to use. You more or less confirm that by saying the Radioapp is better than TuneIn.

I’d also say WiiM devices support Bluetooth, AirPlay and Chromecast precisely for that reason - to accommodate apps that don’t have a third party interface or which are unlikely to see an implementation in the WiiM Home app.

Personally, I’ve tended not to use the WiiM home app for anything other than configuration and tend to use the more feature rich streaming services own apps.

I’d also say that using Alexa to directly deliver to the WiiM device the stations the app supports isn’t a bad compromise :)

Cheers

unlikely to be included in the WiiM app
I agree, but WiiM have given us the opportunity to suggest features, so that is what I have done. Who knows they might look at it and be impressed enough to add it in.

One of the reasons I bought a WiiM was the ease of having a single app to facilitate the many others in one place. I guess it's one of its selling points. Previously I did indeed stream from numerous apps, but the WiiM Home App appeals to me for its simplicity in keeping all of those apps in a one stop shop as it were. It has all the others I will ever need to use so the inclusion of RadioApp would make a perfect solution even better for me.
However, given the lack of votes, I doubt my suggestion will be given a second look, but hey, there's no harm in asking. 😀

I’ve just downloaded it to try on both my iPad and android phone, and both support Chromecast which is a good thing :) Anyway, I’ve upvoted your suggestion in case you and @Mr Ee gang up on me 😂😂

using Alexa to directly deliver to the WiiM device
Thank you for this suggestion. I did setup Alexa in the WiiM Pro Plus, but initially when asking it to play the required station it went to TuneIn.

However, today when I made the same voice request, Alexa offered to play via RadioApp. I assume this a direct cast from the RadioApp servers, which is great, but without having the actual app on the WiiM Home App you don't get all the other features of course, like playing song details etc., but at least the radio stream works, which I've found is usually better than TuneIn.

I'm still learning how all these things work, but I'd still like to see RadioApp added to the WiiM Home App. :)

Given the radio silence from @WiiM Support I'm guessing my request is little more than a pipedream? ;)
I’d guess it isn’t a priority with all the other work that WiiM are doing at the moment, and also highly depends on whether RadioApp have an application programming interface that third parties like WiiM can use in their apps. If they don’t, WiiM can’t do anything about that.

As I mention above, I don’t see it as possible that the WiiM app will accommodate all services out there and given that WiiM supports ChromeCast as does the RadioApp app, that may be your best solution in the short and maybe even longer term.

I’d guess it isn’t a priority
Indeed. All good, it works well with Alexa through the WiiM Pro Plus, but the full app is excellent and provides cover art and song details etc. I know I can use the Android app, but the idea behind the request is to keep the WHA a one stop shop for the services I use. It's the only service I use that's missing from the WiiM App. It's nearly Christmas so it doesn't hurt to wish. :)
