i just got my wiim Pro up and running and so far so good. i got it specifically to use with my amazon unlimited account. it was no problem setting that up.

i'm using the wiim home app on an android tablet as the "controler"

so when i'm in the amazon menus i can see almost everything except there doesn't appear to be a "recently added" tab like on the actual amazon app... nor does there appear to be a way to sort your albums... am i missing something or do i need to put in a feature request for these?

thanks!

Welcome.
You can also cast to the pro from the amazon app itself.
You need to enable Amazon Music in the music services screen.
Shortly after that you should see a round cast icon in the amazon app to cast to the pro. The square icon is chromecast, if you enabled that on your pro.
Use the round one.

thanks! that worked!

curious... is it better to cast from the amazon app vs. the wiim home app

also... why is it preferable to use the round cast icon vs the chromecast?

so this is interesting. in chromecast mode it plays at fixed bitrate... when casting from the amazon cast it sends full bitrate to my DAC but it doesn't show it on the screen and it actually says "bitrate not availabe when casting" that's odd...

on the wiim home app it shows the bitrate while casting and sends the correct bitrate to the DAC.

seems a bit wonky. although prior to going down this rabbit hole i had "done my own research" and it seems that some folks swear by casting direct to from amazon app while others prefer the wiim home app. i guess i will have to mess around with both.

i think i will probably end up using the wiim home app at this juncture b/c it runs on my tablet... whereas amazon music doesn't work on this crappy android tablet and so i have to use my phone to cast if i'm going to do that... i also use jriver for my personal collection and i use the tablet for that... i'm thinking it might be easier just to use the tablet for everything... i guess i will put a suggestion in that they add the album sort feature which includes the ability to sort by "recently added" and maybe eventually that will resolve the one issue i have at this juncture.

otherwise i'm happy with the wiim pro... it was super easy to set up... adding my amazon account was also very easy. so overall 8.5/10.

i'm running optical out to a denafrips ares 12th and it sounds great! it actually might sound a bit better from the wiim home app than it does casting from amazon app... i'll have to do some critical listening this weekend.

Whatever works best for you.
Both have their quirks, as you have already seen.

Alexacast is gapless and bit perfect.

There should be no difference in the sound using alexacast from amazon app or amazon within the wiim app, assuming they are both playing the same stream.

ah-ha! that's good to know! much appreciated!

Two things - Amazon’s help pages are clear that the Amazon Music app only supports HD (in Amazon’s terminology) with Chromecast, so the best you will get is 16/44.1. Also, I think that warning has always been in the Amazon Music app when casting.

Be careful to differentiate Chromecast (the rectangular icon) and AlexaCast (the round icon). As above, the first delivers just CD quality, while the latter delivers bit perfect up to 24/192 as does the WiiM Home app.

If you have linked Alexa in the WiiM home app to enable AlexaCast, there will be no difference between using the WiiM Home or Amazon Music app as they’re playing the same track at the same resolution.

Yes, I have requested that feature before. However, due to limitations of the Amazon music API it may not be possible to add it. I do not know. (The WiiM Team said they would consider this feature.)

You can submit a request in the feedback section of the WiiM app's settings menu.

I recently started using Qobuz, and Qobuz in the WiiM app allows sorting. I can also add tracks to favorites and edit playlists on the WiiM app. 😄

Where would I see the round icon in the app. I tried that, couldn't find it.

Device connection screen of Amazon music app.

Thanks for replying, I haven't seen that screen! Now I haven't set up Alexa. I've just been casting from phone to Wiim.
When I get downstairs I'll set up Alexa and see if that screen pops up. As of now I can't edit Playlist or add new music. Hope this will fix the problem. Again thanks.

Yes, you must log in to Alexa in the WiiM app to use Alexa cast. Once logged in, open the Amazon Music app, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, and from there go to the device connection screen. (That is the screen I just posted.)

Unfortunately, you cannot add Amazon Music tracks to favorites on the WiiM app; for Amazon Music, currently the WiiM app works on a read-only basis.

Read only!!! Ouch. Do you think that is an Amazon or WiiM fix that is needs to be addressed?

"Read only" may have been a misnomer, but You cannot edit playlists or add tracks on the WiiM app. This could be a limitation due to the Amazon Music API, but I don't know details.

If you cast to WiiM from the Amazon music app using Alexacast, you can use most of the features.🙂

Been a while since I used Amazon, but I'm pretty certain I never enabled / logged into Allexa to get alexacast to work. Just activated amazon music in the wiim app.
Which is now at the beginning of the services lIst!

Remember the screen to enable Alexa and Chromecast during setup?

Yep, I only ever chose chromecast.

So you were using Chromecast with Amazon music? Unusually you sound like you are wondering. Did you drink too much beer last night?😅

No, maybe I am the one who is wrong...
But I believe right here.😄
