I think that it would be good if the terms "master" and "slave" used i WiiM documentation and the WHA should be replaced with more inclusive and neutral language.

This could be:

**Primary/Secondary**,
**Leader/Follower**,
**Main/Replica**,
**Controller/Worker**,
**Parent/Child**,
**Manager/Agent**.

These alternatives would help create a more inclusive and respectful documentation/app.

The word "slave" is found in at least 8 FAQ documents and also in the WiiM Home App (Group Audio Delay). I would like to see a more consistent terminology where the word "slave" is not included.

I understand the sentiment but unfortunately the terminology is deeply embedded in engineering including electronics.
Standards such as IEEE use the same terminology
Only somewhere. Some companies, writers and engineers actually cares about using a proper language and don't use words that can be associated with that period of history.

Anyway, the terms are not even used consistently in the WiiM documentation.

Not so hard to fix.

Obviously adding devices to a "whitelist" should also be avoided...
Actually yes. The word "allowlist" is commonly use.

It is however not so clear as in some societies, Black and White are associated with Night and Day and in Eastern Culture with dualism like in Yin and Yang.

I don't think WiiM uses "whitelist" or "blacklist" in the documentation?

Really?! Master. Slave. Ok. Geez.

History is history. Warts and all. Changing language does not erase its existence. Proper language? What exactly is that? It sounds as if you want to change this particular language because you are offended by it. I have a suggestion for you. Please consider thickening up your skin a bit. Try it. It’s free and won’t hurt one bit. Thank you.

Why would you assume that? Too many slaves in Copenhagen? Don't tell me this discussion is all new to you. Or is it?

Even if I personally don't support the request it's worth to be discussed. Telling others not to behave like that sounds a bit like an arrogant recommendation from the privileged ...

I stand by what I said. I suggested he thicken his skin. We are very different. Different cultures. Done.

Personally, I don't feel that attached to either approach. I'm not offended by words not meant in an offensive way. And on the other end of that, I'm not offended if a person wants to use a different word they prefer. If it still conveys the meaning, why the hell would I care? Sensitivity on both ends can get carried away and make an issue where there doesn't need to be one. Not everything in life needs to be a pissing match.

I have raised this for discussion not for my own sake but because I have found out over the many years where I have been writing user documentation, that some people care.

There are different cultures in the world and for some it does matter how some words are used.

I created this thread to find some better words but it looks like people are getting offended insted. What a strange world.
