Shuffling a large Plex music playlist problems

I have a WiiM Ultra to which I added my Plex account. In Plex I have a smart playlist with about 30,000 tracks (tracks I haven't listened to recently). This playlist is about 101 days of music long. When I load the playlist into WiiM it shows the correct number of tracks but only lists ~ 56 hours of music. When I play this playlist on shuffle it's only pulling tracks from a small selection of my playlist, all of the tracks are roughly in the same part of the playlist as ordered in Plex. This means I'm only getting tracks from the same few artists. If I go down to King Crimson I'm basically only getting King Crimson and Kraftwerk songs as I have a large collection of those. Obviously this isn't what I intended.

I suspect that the WiiM is only loading 1000 tracks of the playlist to shuffle from and wanted to verify that this is a WiiM limitation vs a Plex issue. I suspect it's WiiM because WiiM is showing the full list of tracks but when I go to the queue it shows only 1000 tracks.

Raise a ticket on this in the app (bottom right ...More > Feedback). You should get some explanation of the limit but hopefully WiiM can fix it for you.

This seems to be common behaviour for wiim with large playlists regardless of source.
I guess it's a tricky compromise as I don't imagine the wiim can store an unlimited number of tracks in its memory.
Wiim have certainly made some changes to playlist and shuffle behaviour in recent (this year iirc) updates.

Can the playlist be set up as a smart preset in the wiim app, with shuffle enabled?
If so, do you get a reasonably shuffled, albeit small, subset of tracks each time you start the preset?
