Wiim Ultra is connected to Smart Plug. After turning on, Ultra never sees the external USB drive, but if you programmatically reboot Ultra, everything appears and starts working. Is there any way to fix this? Thank you.

I cannot confirm any such behaviour with my WiiM Ultra. My Ultra gets physically switched off every night and my 512 GB memory stick is recognised every time it gets switched on again.

What type of USB drive do you use? Memory key, SSD or even external HDD? In the latter case it might just be too slow to present its contents to the Ultra in due time. In that case the only real solution would be a different USB storage device.

Not my experience, but I make sure my external DAC/amp is powered up first so the Ultra detects it when it wakes up. If the Ultra doesn't detect it on power up, it'll switch to another input, but once I turn my external amp on, I can switch to the USB connection manually without a reboot.

If that's not your experience, then submit a ticket to WiiM once the Ultra has powered up so they can inspect your device logs as to why your DAC is showing up as available.

Sorry, just reread your post - you're taking about the USB drive, not an external USB DAC.

However, I again don't experience your USB drive issue as mine is permanently powered up via an external power source so is always available when the Ultra is

So, this is the old version using a spinning hard disk drive? In this case it might really just be too slow to boot.

In particular, the WiiM Ultra can deliver up to 1750 mA of current through its USB port. This might be on the edge of what the hard drive needs to power up. Once the disk is spinning, power consumption (and thus current draw) will be lower.

@Burnside @harkpabst Thanks to everyone, on your advice I connected the USB disk to an external power source and apparently the problem disappeared. Now the power supply of all devices (amplifier, DAC, Ultra, USB) is organized through one smart Xiaomi socket. Sitting on the couch, with one click of a button in the application on the phone or tablet all devices are turned on or off.

Another great companion for WiiM Ultra that I have found is the Panamax M8 AV Pro power strip with 12V trigger input. It has four high-current sockets that are controlled via 12V trigger, so for stuff like power amps that don't have a 12V trigger, but will return to power-on state when power is restored (such as my SMSL PA200 amps), the Panamax M8 AV Pro is the perfect solution. Of course, this only works for people who leave the WiiM itself always connected to power and use the included remote for changing the streamer between fully on versus standby state, and not for people who wish to fully disconnect the WiiM when not in use.
