Sonos to WiiM: Advice needed

Find me a better music scanner that is as powerful.

Runs on Nas, pc, pi. Is open source and still supported.
What's that got to do with support?

The licensed version of MinimServer. Maybe AssetUPnP and Jriver.

Seeing as the vast majority of users are satisfied with Sonos/BluOS/MiniDLNA the flexibility these systems offer just isn't needed in a commercial offering - unless they're going to rent it to you e.g. Roon.

I guess you don't have a large library. Mines about 8TB

Factor in 30,000 one hit wonder artists, and "all artists" is a complete mess
Album Artists is a far neater branch, so major artists are in there, the bigger bands that released 5+ albums.

I've used the generic UPNP system, and promptly moved back to LMS. It can do so much more.

I would not buy a audio streamer if it didn't support softsqueeze. Even if you gave me a Hifi Rose, if it didn't support softsqueeze I wouldn't be interested. Not unless you can give a equal or better music scanner.

I've used Sonos. It's basic and designed for the apple crowd. "Here's how we want you to do it, you have no in depth customisation, now go away "

I only have about 35,000 tracks but a couple of weeks ago someone mentioned ~192,000 so I'm not aware of a limit.

Personally I don't even have a track artist index (in MinimServer) because of the issues you describe.

Apart from the 'Random' indexes in your screenshot you're able to create all of those with MinimServer (random/shuffle would come from the control point), in addition to any others you may want as you're able to index any tag you like e.g. I have a selection that filters out bonus tracks.

I've just installed minimserver on my Synology NAS, and activated the trial license (I used Minimserver many years ago with a ancient NAS, and that wasn't great as every reboot lost the library database, it performed a full library scan)

Are you taking the mickey? It's basic as **** with no adjustability at all. ROFL

Go back to your Apple devices. Don't waste my time.

I take it you just activated the trial and didn't make any configuration changes in the Properties tab!

I've attached a few screenshots but they're hiding a lot of the detail e.g. The album name you see displayed is actually comprised of a number of different tags, not just %album%.

I use Series (a grouping of albums) to hide a lot of my girlfriends questionable cheesy pop collections :)

No adjustability at all? Did you check the help pages??

I checked on each of those tab pages and they had limited customisation about the same as 15 years ago. basic.

Here are snapshots of LMS settings. plus a list of the available plug ins

That is why my next audio streamer would have to support squeezelite. Wiim does so that is first on my list

and list of settings

it’s ok, you don’t need to teach grandma to suck eggs, I already use LMS and Minimserver on occasion as the mood takes me…

No wonder it only appeals to tinkerers!

I know a little about LMS too by the way.

It's as simple as you need it, but a couple of extra features have come in handy, such as third party firmware support for the Squeezeboxes, Music & information, Lyric, album art downloader, ability to use seperate branches off artists using "release type" tag

That feature is brilliant., I bought a Raspberry Pi for that alone, to upgrade from LMS 8.0.0 on synology to LMS on the Pi 9.0.0 And it's all free, open source. Then Material skin app on the phone. So is the additional browse mode added a branch of composer/albums.
