Looks like the beta is available for most devices.
Not the C10 (and presumably not the A10 either), and my minis are offline atm but as they don't have CC...
For me, I'll stick with changing to Chromecast in the spotify app.

Have done the same. Seems like the easiest option and I can't really tell if there's a sound difference.

(Hopefully Spotify Connect will return to WiiM devices eventually and its removal is only a bug.)

I’d not expect to her a difference given that Chromecast’s potential bandwidth is way higher than what Spotify can deliver..

The biggest difference should be Googlecast not being gapless. This is an issue with some music and audio plays, at least.
not being perfectly gapless seems unthinkable...
(This type of problem shows a little the limits of streaming for certain more delicate uses...for many functions that do not encourage frantic zapping...the CD has many qualities...)

In the meantime step 1 works fine here. I just have to remind myself not to stream any Wagner operas from Spotify until the issue is resolved and I'm back on Spotify Connect.

So options 1 works fine and was already tested a few days ago. I can confirm option 3 now allows me to enable Spotify Connect by disabling Google Chromecast. For anyone wondering how to get the beta software, select the device in the WiiM app, then settings, then device info and join beta testing and select the Spotify Connect Quick Fix.

I can at some point turn chromecast back on using option 3 and revert to that use case so that Google Home connects properly (OK GOOGLE, STOP) or continue using spotify connect and be able to leave the building and still have music playing. Not worried about not having both.

My impression is that spotify connect is less likely to support "Jams", but will try again when the wife is back.

This has been a useful learning experience for me, and I really appreciate the WiiM team dropping in a beta fix to deal with the Spotify "glitch"

Google home has removed my device from the room and presumably will not ever stream to it (but that is for a later day to test)

I wonder for Google Home users if a "disable spotify connect" feature would be a useful option. Or have I just missed that?

Thank goodness it’s not just me!

WiiM, once this is sorted and the root cause identified, please work with Spotify to ensure they include WiiM as part of their change control / QA process for future rollouts.

This bug could be forgiven for a smaller company, but WiiM are big enough now that this shouldn’t happen.

"2. Perform a factory reset on the WiiM device to disable Google Cast."

Will WiiM ever come up with a way to disable Google Cast without doing a factory reset?

And here I thought it was spotify's fault when it affected me. Props to the Wiim team for being forthright and communicative, you don't see that often these days.

Yeah, the explanation in option 3 is ambiguous - I thought we’d done away with the notion of whitelists given everyone can access any available beta firmware under the device info for their device, but a reply I got to a ticket still referred to a “whitelist” even though I had already updated to the latest beta before I had submitted my ticket. Maybe not everyone at WiiM got the email? ;)

There’s been a Spotify app update on Android to v9.0.20.604 which a user on the WiiM Facebook page thinks may have resolved this issue. No sign yet on iOS.
