Stuttering with Tidal

I have a WiiM Ultra and I use Tidal as my streaming service. A few weeks ago I began having a persistent issue with Tidal where the music stutters or freezes. I took out a help desk tick and was advised to reboot my WiFi and WiiM device and turn off the Preferred DNS Server setting. This solution works, but now I have to reboot nearly every day. Does anyone understand the root cause of this problem and whether or not there is a permanent fix?

It often turned out that Tidal itself has server problems depending on the region. I live in the far north of Germany and had only noticed an outage once in three years. Is there an internet-based fault map for your region/country on which you could check this if necessary?

Maybe 1 of the reasons: There at least 2 very popular websites that are running scripts and generate a lot of traffic to (some of) Tidals servers disguising as actual users/devices downloading for offline use while removing/stripping all restrictions and allowing anyone to download full resolution FLAC files from Tidal.

I having the same problem with Spotify, everytime Wiim decides to update my device the stuttering comes back, the only solution I've found its to use a beta firmware, and install it again and again cos Wiim keeps updating my device making it unusable. Try a beta firmware

If it's Spotify, not Tidal, it's most likely not the same problem.

Spotify and its lossy compression are not a heavy load on the device or on the network. The fact that you still get stuttering only proves that there is some problem somewhere. And with streaming services running (mostly rented) CDN servers all around the globe this can be tricky to tackle.

The fact that you have no problem with some particular beta firmware version is interesting, but since this kind of problem is very rare with Spotify it's not a foolproof hint at what's wrong. I can't remember if you ever mentioned how you use Spotify with your WiiM. Is it through Googlecast or through Spotify Connect? The Spotify app supports both and the reasons why one fails doesn't say a lot about the other.

While playing something on Spotify on your phone tap the small speaker icon and then tap on the three dots next to your WiiM.

This dialog should allow you to switch between Googlecast and Spotify Connect (usually the preferred choice).

Good shout - Chromecast issues with the Ultra aren’t uncommon so if that’s being used rather than Connect, then that may be the root cause.

What a nice explanation, thank you very much for all the info :)

I'm using Spotify Connect btw.
