Sub woes

I recently bought a little Tannoy sub off eBay. I also bought the REL wireless kit. I'm right in thinking that the sub out from the WiimAmp is LFE? I am getting a loud hum from the sub and when playing music it sounds as if the sub amp is clipping even when playing quietly. What am I doing wrong?

LFE is discrete subwoofer channel from AVR's.. Sounds like you have a ground loop.

Since the Tannoy sub is second hand I'd look into that, does it hum with nothing connected? If yes the sub is faulty. If the hum only appears with direct cable or with rel wireless, then ground loop.

Thank you very much for your reply. The sub has a very quiet sorry of papery rustle still when nothing connected. I think I have narrowed the hum down to when the power supplies for the wireless are plugged in. That and needing a well shielded signal cable. Out of interest, what would I do about a ground loop? Thanks again.
