Hi. I have 3 different Synology servers. Sharing my music with Media server and DLNA to other devices.

Before buying check that Synology was supported and it is easy to build library https://faq.wiimhome.com/en/support/solutions/articles/72000642736-building-and-managing-a-media-library-from-your-media-server
That I dont need to buy one more hdd and plug to Wiim.
But at the final it is not supported and now removed from support help section :(

Please can you give advice how to build library on WiiM with Synology NAS ? Indexing NAS files as external HDD.

That’s really disappointing, especially since Synology support was clearly mentioned before. If DLNA browsing is still limited, the only workaround seems to be using a UPnP media server like MinimServer or Plex on the NAS, but it’s not the same as true indexing.

I’d say using Minimserver, Assetupnp or even Synology’s own Media Server is “true indexing”. Why do you think it’s not the same?

No issues with LMS on a Pi.

I can understand wanting Synology NAS to be server and music storage, I had LMS running on Synology for a few years but support stopped from Synology and Pinkdot, so I had to shift it over to a Pi. Glad I did as it's a bit faster, especially on full rescan, and it has features the older LMS 8 lacked

Have yoj tried either bubble or asset server.
I use both and I like asset, although there is a small fee.

I do have a Synology Nas too.

I would give a heads up though that I'm having issues with the wiim and nas files.

I'm hoping the replacement from my retailer might resolve it

Using lms it's just better.

No issues with it

I mean there's no such thing as "better", it's a case if what suits your use and logic.

The issues I'm having are not related server side, they're firmware based on the wiim ultra.

Its great to hear you're happy with LMS. I used Logitech media server "back in the day", but when it was later discontinued, I followed and continued trying many alternatives.

I personally like these other 2, but that doesn't make your decision wrong or inferior however.

I'm glad you're enjoying your open source server, but it's only fair to allow others to decide rather than "tell them".

Happy listening

As someone who is new to this stuff and totally confused I would like to ask a few questions.

I use a Synology/Media Server/Audio Station to store and manage my music collection. It is organised by in folders by ARTIST>Album and I play the music by selecting the folder I want to listen to. This thread raises some questions for me...

Am I missing out playing music using my system?

What advantages does a library present as asked in this thread

Is my folder system a library?

What is the advantage of Using something like Minim Server which I have never been able to figure out how to instal and use?

If the mods want I will start a new thread to avoid going too far off topic.
I had the same question. The advantage of running a NAS based server is... it extracts numerous meta data creating tags from the raw data and caches tables of just the tags which makes searching much much faster. So it expands your selectable categories (tags) and speeds access. You still need to scan your updated NAS library indexes in the server as a separate step. So expanding (adding albums) is 2+ steps. Rescan the NAS index and then rescan in Wiim Home ON EVERY client device accessing that server library. This brings the indexes in sync. If you want to see the difference compare the Wiim Home display using first the sever index and then create a server share to the raw data and point to it directly (basically folder view).

The Synology NAS is set to scan every day, my confusion continues and I appreciate your contribution to the thread. The bolded part is beyond my understanding unfortunately.

I have just started a re-scan of the music library in WHA but I always presumed this would be an automated procedure done daily, is this not the case?

Best to stick to one server setup, I've tried the Wiim scanner, it's not great. Slow and halts at around 300,000 tracks.

No issues with my LMS server on a Pi5. Probably would be fine on the NAS as well, if the package was still supported/updated (or I had Intel NAS and install Docker sideload LMS)

The only reason you need to perform a scan in the WHA is because you're using "Advanced" mode? Have you looked at legacy (as your server intended) mode?
The option to switch appears below "Rescan Your Music Server".

I saw the option to change to smart mode so I am not using it.

I'm not sure what "smart" mode is, but if you're using Legacy mode then you don't need a WHA rescan.

WiiM introduced caching a few months ago which could lead you to believe that you need a rescan, so if you're missing recently added albums and not using advanced mode then it's a bug with the caching implementation.

And therefore need to close the Wiim Home App and reopen it to see the new or changed music.
