Ultra Airplay

Different markets (commercial v. hobby/enthusiast) and there’s nothing to say Apple wouldn’t jump on them at some point as Spotify have just done in relation to librespot trying to implement lossless Spotify support.
Just saying that AirPlay don't need special hardware or a special Chip, that is missing from the WiiM Ultra.

It's all about licensing and business decision.

Just different words. In order to get a licence for a product, the hardware must be certified to support the features to an acceptable level of performance, interoperability, resilience etc. If the hardware has limitations (whatever they might be), a licence for use of the product won’t be issued. So in that manner, the hardware has to be “special” enough as to have no such limitations.

Anyway, as per the link, any more detail around this matter is pure speculation :)
