USB Hub not working

I've read from other posts that you can use the usb as an input and output simultaneously. That is to send the audio to an external DAC and read a usb dive at the same time. It's not working for me using a usb hub. I'm using the extent brand. Is it not functional or am I using the wrong brand and if I am can someone tell me which one I should use? Make and model please.

Yes, a 1TB Sandisk Extreme portable SSD and feeding my Linn MDSM/4 amp over USB. Can even play tracks from that SSD to the amp/DAC at the same time.

Just in case anybody wants to know I couldn't get the usb hub to read files and play them back via usb to the dac. I could read the files from the usb but had to choose the output as coax or optical. Doesn't really matter because the Ultra will convert all dsd/dsf files to 24/192 pcm anyway. It does an exceptionally good job. I was listening to psaudio/octave records dsd256 files.

USB hub not working? To fix this, first try disconnecting the hub and reconnecting it after a few seconds. Sometimes, a simple reset can help the system recognize it again. Also, make sure your drivers are up to date and check if the hub needs external power.:)

There are no drivers involved in this setup and I didn't need additional power - plus the drive seems to be working ok, it's the USB DAC output that's impacted and I would see power impacting that tbh

My hub has it's own power supply.

Okay Wiim just updated this morning and now I have the hub (own psu) plugged in to the wiim then from the hub to the dac and a thumb drive plugged into the hub and all is working fine. To be honest though whether I use the usb or coax to connect to the dac they both sound fantastic and show 24/192 when playing dsd 256 files. The built in dsd to pcm converter sounds better than when I change the file on my computer.

I had a question regarding using a USB hub. I connected a 2TB USB hard drive and a USB cable to a Denafrips Pontus 15 DAC to the USB hub. I do not get any audio unfortunately. With the hard drive connected to the Ultra directly and using the coaxial output to Pontus 15 I get audio. When using a USB hub does it show an option in the Audio Output settings for USB?

Might the hub need additional power when using both?

Having power doesn't hurt. The hard wired USB cable of the hub goes in to the ultra then on the ports you plugin the hard drive and the DAC. Wiim will read them all. Even multiple hard drives.

That’s the way I had everything connected. Just no audio when the USB input of the Pontus 15 is selected. Denafrips was not sure if a USB hub would work. I’ll fool around with a bit. If not successful coaxial will work just fine.

No worries! Appreciate the quick response. I have a feeling it’s the Denafrips Pontus 15 DAC that’s the issue. Will spend more time on it to see if I can get the USB hub to work. Thank you!

I wanted to quote this post from WiiM Support again as I’ve had success using a USB hub. I decided to just try connecting the USB cable direct from the Ultra to the Pontus 15. I played some music from Qobuz and it sounded great.

Then tried adding the USB hub and the 2TB USB hard drive. Sure enough there was an option in the Audio Output Setting to select USB output / Denafrips USB. Was so happy to see that! In all honesty the issue all along might have been that I hadn't correctly selected the USB Output in the Audio Output setting. Either way it sounds great and I'm very happy to be able to utilize the USB input of the Pontus 15 :).

Thanks again to WiiM Support for reaching out to me so quickly to assist in troubleshooting a "non issue".
