USB Output Pre-Gain issue

So, using usb input and 'Replaygain by album' this in general reduces volume by lets say an average of 6db or whatever it is. As there is no USB Pre-gain option, I wanted to reduce Wi-fi Pre-gain for streaming services to balance the volume so its not blaring when I switch source, and to my surprise the Wi-fi Pre-gain not only adjusts Wi-fi it also adjusts USB gain.

Is this is a bug or expected behaviour? am I doing something wrong here? Why is Wi-fi Pre-gain affecting the USB source?

I cant figure out a way to level volume between sources, I also use Optical for CD player. I saw there is a "per source volume control" but that's not really what I was looking to do, but I guess it would help.

For now I've switched replaygain off and just adjust volume as needed.

It's expected behaviour. With the WiiM Amps and the WiiM Ultra you don't play.muaic from your USB drive directly. You're playing music from a media server that by chance happens to run on the same device and that happens to take the files on the USB source as its input.

It's like.like listening to any media server on your network and other players on your network can access this media server, too.

Could WiiM make a separate pre-gain adjustment without giving up the above concept? I don't know. Send them feedback through the WiiM Home App if you want that as feature. I for one surely would support the idea, if possible.

You're right, per-source volume control does something different. It remembers the last volume setting for any source. I'm not a big fan. It somehow can be used to achieve a similar thing as pre-gain, but in a completely different way. My last LINE input session might have been at volume 80, because the neighbours were not around. But that doesn't mean that I want the volume at 80 the next time I switch to LINE in ...

You should however be able to balance the volume between e.g. optical in, line in, HDMI, Bluetooth, ... using pre-gain. What are your current settings?
