Pardon me, I am weak and sentimental. 😉
Waving the German flag. Dance Pop from the Schlager Hitparade....guess the Pet Shop Boys would like it. Of course no high culture, but not inferior to the majority of international pop stuff. The credits reads like the who-is-who of the German pop business. And do not forget, this genre is earning the money the labels throw out of the windows and is in that way sponsoring the more sophisticated music 😉

Nothing wrong with this genre, especially when compared with some contemporary trends such as the pernicious so-called gangsta rap & narco rap

Much of the music I recorded on cassette tapes in my childhood is well-known pops that everyone knows.

I want to know what love is - Foreigner

It was released in 1984 and in Jan 1985 dragged Madonna's Like A Virgin from the Billboard Top 1.

It had a very impressive lineup at the top of the charts at the time. 🤗

This album arrived today in the weekly surprise box from my record store. Not yet ready to spin, so I thought "Stream it, old boy!" Qobuz? Nope, nada, niente. Tidal and Spotify offer the album, so I had to bite the dust 🤷🏻‍♂️.
Elektra producer Paul A. Rothchild was so enthusiastic about the band, which had a trumpeter and a trombonist in addition to the usual guitar, bass and drum cast, that he spoke of the "most exciting thing since The Doors". The self-titled 1968 debut did not chart despite some marketing, Elektra dropped the band again. Ars Nova was able to end up with a major label (Atlantic) again, but also with the second album there was no success, it remained the last. Here, too, the classical touch of the two wind instruments provides a highly individual sound in the large, colourful, psychedelic circus of the era - a sound with a lot of potential. Years before Pink Floyd, a 7/4 time was used on song length, and there is no shortage of innovative ideas. Sometimes it doesn't work out despite the best conditions; this band that went down too early is a classic example...
(Sorry for the long text, but it helped me to sort and structure things 😉)
