This album arrived today in the weekly surprise box from my record store. Not yet ready to spin, so I thought "Stream it, old boy!" Qobuz? Nope, nada, niente. Tidal and Spotify offer the album, so I had to bite the dust

Elektra producer Paul A. Rothchild was so enthusiastic about the band, which had a trumpeter and a trombonist in addition to the usual guitar, bass and drum cast, that he spoke of the "most exciting thing since The Doors". The self-titled 1968 debut did not chart despite some marketing, Elektra dropped the band again. Ars Nova was able to end up with a major label (Atlantic) again, but also with the second album there was no success, it remained the last. Here, too, the classical touch of the two wind instruments provides a highly individual sound in the large, colourful, psychedelic circus of the era - a sound with a lot of potential. Years before Pink Floyd, a 7/4 time was used on song length, and there is no shortage of innovative ideas. Sometimes it doesn't work out despite the best conditions; this band that went down too early is a classic example...
