Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro Mk2 *
Hifiman Arya Organic ^
Sennheiser HD650 (occasional use) ^
+ various Sennheiser & other unused headphones
Apple Airpods Pro2 for travelling etc

* 17 BAND PEQ via Mac, AutoEq app -> external headphone DAC
^ 10 Band PEQ WiiM Ultra -> Headphone amp

Note for Headphone users (Mac OS or Windows) - google Squiglink & use the free software to create accurate PEQ with real-time graphical interface. Most manufacturers/models are covered & you can add bands well beyond the standard 10, using various target curves (I prefer Harman 2018)

It’s about 4 steps from Kevin Ayers to this Reggae album by Gregory Isaac’s if that.

Ayers formed Soft Machine along with Mike Ratledge, Robert Wyatt and Daevid Allen. After Ayers and Allen left they hung out together in Mallorca until going their separate ways. Allen, an Australian, went to France and formed Gong. He was unable to return to UK as his work permit had expired.
One of Gong’s earliest albums was Camembert Electrique which was re-released as a publicity stunt by Virgin records in 1974 at 50p.
Another Virgin 50p publicity album from 1975 was The Front Line - a Reggae sampler designed to showcase Virgin’s Reggae sub label - Front Line.
Selling albums at 50p was a loss leader even back in the 70s.
This 1978 Gregory Isaac album is on Virgin’s Front Line.
Impressive 4 steps there, interesting to read!
I still have my Front Line sampler album, but paid an exorbitant 69p for it at the time. Still has the sticker on the cover.

The whole Front Line catalogue played a big part in getting me (and many others I'm sure) into Reggae back then.

New album from one of the true GOAT’s of reggae. I haven’t found much info on it but it seems like older versions (some live) of previously released songs. There are some really good tracks although the recording quality isn’t always the greatest. Highly recommend especially for those familiar with his work.

Thanks, will give this a listen, big fan of Spear's 70s and 80s output. Most of my reggae vinyl collection doesn't date beyond 1983/4 when the Sleng Teng era kicked off - the digitised stuff didn't rock my boat the same as Roots..
