What are you listening to?

I see there is a " Shine on You Crazy Diamond" version where all the parts are together. I might have to invest in this just for that. I hope "The Wall" is next. Some of that just didn't hold up and desperately needs remastered.
Apart from the extras does anyone know which master was used for the original Wish You Were Here album for this release? There is a new stereo mix for the 25 minute version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond but no mention of the album versions.
I thought The Wall sounded fine from the start. It certainly isn't dynamically compressed. What do you think could be improved?

"All Music" my source for new releases just has it listed as a new stereo mix. I always thought "The Wall" sounded flat. I will mention i have not heard the vinyl version in 40 years.

This will be next...

Pattern Seeking Animals - Friend Of All Creatures

Who couldn’t resist this with such a cute cover (& it's beautiful, mellow retro prog rock as well)

It’s the Bernie Grundman 2016 remaster.

From Maine, the ex-The Lemonheads member. Her 1992 album "Hey Babe" was my first of her albums. This new one is indie at its best in my opinion.

Is that better than the 2011 remaster or the original vinyl? 🙂
Wasn't the 2016 remaster only on vinyl?
I haven’t heard the 2016 yet but it was cut from a digital source and yes I think it was vinyl only. The 2011 was cut by Doug Sax and from the reviews on Discogs is that the 2011 is better than the new Grundman cut. I’ve never heard an original but I assume a nice UK pressing would be the best. Either way I’m not paying the money they want for this new version especially if it’s a 10 year old mastering job. They should be done a new 2025 cut from the analog tapes or remix the whole thing like what they did for Shine On 1-9

The 2011 is definitely better than the original UK CD version which I think mine was. I didn't think the 50th anniversary version of DSOTM sounded any better than the original vinyl ( or the SACD or the 2011 remaster). So these new anniversary editions are for rich collectors only IMHO and obviously Sony trying to claw their money back 🤣

It sounds just fine even without Steven Wilson🤣

Rich is always relative 😉 I spend a lot for special vinyls. Says my wife. But not for the dinosaurs. No idea what is expected to find in 50 year old recordings what wasn't found in the meantime.

What counts as special in the modern era? If vinyl has the same mastering as digital versions then why bother. If vinyl has better mastering then the record company is taking the p*** 🤷‍♂️

It is their business. As long as people buy the old stuff they will cash them. So who is wrong? My vinyl comes from independent living artists. Or is for long in my collection.

I have a 89 US cd version of WYWH and The Wall which sounds great to my ears. The only 2016 version LP I have is The Final Cut. All my other Floyd records are all US originals.
