Did someone had the chance to compare the Wiim amp ultra or just Wiim amp with a Yamaha RN 2000 A?
I am not really satisfied with my Yamaha and looking for an alternative. Sure, the Yamaha is 3–4 times as expensive, but that doesn’t really mean anything. You’re also paying for the big name and a lot of material costs. But nowadays, in 2026, you can achieve a lot with a Class D amplifier as well, I think.

I think that if you want to hear a difference between the two, you will.
I would not expect actual meaningful differences.

If you‘re comfortable in your Yamaha‘s price range and looking for a top-tier class-D amp you should not look to TPA amps like the WiiM but rather at Purifi amps. Apollon, Buckeye and Audiophonics are some prominent expamples.

Other than your Yamaha they are power amps only. But adding a WiiM Ultra (not Amp Ultra) will render all the streaming, DAC and connection features and you‘ll have a very serious setup.

What is that you don't like of the Yamaha?
It is the sound. It’s nothing special. You can hear every instrument very clearly, but together they don’t create a real soundstage. I previously had a tube amplifier. It had a silky, warm sound. I don’t expect much more from the WiiM Amp than from the Yamaha, but I’m saving €2,500. I will do an A/B comparison and will report.

‚Soundstage‘, ‚silky‘ and a previous tube amp ….. you won‘t get happy with either the WiiM, nor a Purifi, nor any other decent amp.

In my opinon it depends heavily on your loudspeakers characteristics and your preferences.
If it’s tube then you might have a look at class A or Amps that go into that direction…
My taste is also situated there … 😉
