Wiim as remote for DLNA music server

Uncertain if this specific question has been asked.

When using the DLNA server integration am I using the Wiim as a remote and the files playing from my NAS straight to the connected amp on the LAN? Or am I streaming the files through the Wiim to the amp?

You're streaming from NAS through the WiiM otherwise you wouldn't need a streamer.

You'd still need the interface on the app to "press play". In my use case I only want the Wiim to interface with the DAC on my amp as it doesn't have a native app. Currently i have a Bluesound X with a week left in its return window but if i can accomplish the same with a Wiim then i can save like $500
